re: Tennessee LB Juwan Mitchell enter the Portal
Posted by 901Tyga on 1/9/23 at 10:55 pm to Merchant Tiger
I don’t think this is the linebacker we want. He’s a slower guy who is more of a run stopper. Honestly, West Weeks and Greg Penn are better than him at that. We need speed guys who can fill a hole fast and play sideline to sideline with the way our d linemen will eat up blocks.
Two things to know here:
1) There was once a deleted tweet of CamRon Jackson entering the portal, transferring and heading to Florida. Hence why his comment section on Twitter has a lot of Florida fans.
2) he’s a big run stopper, and I think he’s a better depth piece than Jalen Lee. Louisiana ties, but some people in Memphis feel like he was one of the two best draft prospects on the team, and he was there best DL. He was the big man in the middle that helped the Tigers finish 27th nationally in run defense. I think he’s a take, but Florida has the inside track on him. It would take some making up ground.

In other words, would you rather be Notre Dame or Auburn

Did anyone screenshot? The tweet is now deleted.

Aranda with Tom Herman as OC>everything
Posted by 901Tyga on 11/13/21 at 1:41 pm
This is the formula. Aranda brings in his old roommate to keep the offense rolling, and the defense will be fine under the best in the game. Unlike most, I prefer a defensive mastermind because there aren’t as many as great offensive coaches. Offense is easier to play today so finding an Aranda is rare. He should be the guy and Herman would be icing on the cake.
Confidence level in Max Johnson
Posted by 901Tyga on 9/4/21 at 12:04 am
What’s your confidence level in Max Johnson? I like him, but I personally would have liked to see Myles slinging it around to all of this WR talent. Love his legs and his touch on passes, but what do you think of his overall accuracy? Can he complete 65% of passes? Just interested to hear some thoughts.
UCLA will be a good test for LSU’s run defense
Posted by 901Tyga on 8/28/21 at 3:27 pm
All the talk this off-season has been about LSU’s ability to rush the passer, but that can only matter so much if the team doesn’t stop the run and get in winnable third downs. Glen Logan is strong against the run and he’ll be missing. Yes Hawaii is terrible, but these running backs aren’t just running through air. That and UCLA’s left tackle is a legit NFL prospect. This will be a good test for LSU’s run defense and our young LBs. looking forward to seeing how they fare.
Impact of Glen Logan injury
Posted by 901Tyga on 8/13/21 at 8:36 am
Glen Logan is out with a broken bone in his foot. Ed O said he should be back some point in the season. That combined with Eric Taylor’s transfer begins to put a lil more attention on LSU’s interior DL depth.
LSU was three deep EASILY, but now one game injury could really be impactful. Group still looks strong, but Logan’s injury hurts.UCLA is an uptempo offense.
Order may not be correct, but it’s looking something like this now.
1st: Evans, Farrell
2nd: Roy, Smith
3rd: Guillory

Ed Orgeron LOVES him. Believes he’s one of the best defensive lineman they’ve recruited in his time. Thought I misheard him once, but he’s said it multiple times. And Ed O knows D lineman if not anything else. Langston sure was a five star who fell probably because of grades. Can’t wait to see him and Maason wreak havoc.
Tennessee offers DC job to Blake Blaker

This was reported by Jimmy Hyams in Knoxville. He butchered the first name but corrected himself in a later. Sounds like Baker has a decision to make.

Why David Reeves should be the next DC
Posted by 901Tyga on 1/9/21 at 1:20 am
I get the love fest for Marcus Freeman, but I personally feel/felt that LSU should be going after David Reeves at UAB. He checks a lot of boxes.
1) Ed O’s preferred attacking style? UAB has 92 sacks and 217 Tackles for loss in last two seasons.
2) coaching young defense? UAB lost 8 starters in 2019 and still finished top 10 in the NCAA in total defense.
3) Third-and-Chavis & Third-and-Aranda are popular around here... UAB was top-10 in 3rd down defense in 2018 and 2019
Bottom line: this guy is a two-time Broyles award finalist and has had some nasty, disruptive defenses. He’s also a defensive line guy. I think he’s the one.

How does Jacobson Guillory fit into 4-3?
Posted by 901Tyga on 10/28/20 at 4:01 pm
With Siaka leaving probably because of his questionable fit, that makes me wonder about Jacobian Guillory, who is also built like 3-4 NT. How do you think he can fit in Bo’s 4-3 going forward?
Ika was a good one, and I’m hoping Tank doesn’t get the same treatment playing time wise.

Which play is more predictable?
Posted by 901Tyga on 10/5/20 at 9:05 am
The Les Miles 4th & 1/game-opening toss dive, or the current no huddle on 3rd & 1 zone handoff to the running back?
Emotion overplayed logic. Brennan has showed us nothing indicating he was ready, and the fans thought the offense was invisible after last season. Seeing D’Eriq King put up 52 yesterday was tough to watch knowing he should be at LSU over Darren Evans.
How to watch new LSU starters
Posted by 901Tyga on 9/19/20 at 9:28 am
I just watched the second half game of Northwestern State from 2019, and you guys should check it out. Jarrell Cherry, Joe Evans, Andre Anthony, Micah Baskerville, Damone Clark, Cam Lewis, and Flott all each made some impressive plays. Of course it’ll be a 4-3 defense this year but you’ll see some flashes of Moore and Anthony both getting after the QB in that second half. Ed O said this defense is better, and here’s a good chance to see some of the players who will have to be big contributors in that. Not the best competition, but you can see the talent. Can’t wait to next week.

Sophomore All-American curse?
Posted by 901Tyga on 8/30/20 at 5:44 pm
No, I don’t think there is a “sophomore all-American curse” but it seems as LSU hasn’t gotten too many second-year All-Americans dominate for multiple seasons in RECENT memory. Tyrann Mathieu (dismissed), Fournette & Guice (Injuries), Delpit (injures), Chase (opt-out), and even Greedy Williams’ play fell a tad bit after that unreal season.
I know Devin White and Jamal Adams are outliers, but who are some players you can think of that put together a great season after a dominant sophomore year at LSU?

Next man up. It’s LSU

Terrace Marshall is about to get TARGETS. He’s been in Chase’s shadow since his injury last season, but now he will get his respect and the numbers to show for it. Mickey Joseph said he’s even taller than last year. 1st round pick.
Racey is ELECTRIC. LSU signed two five star pass catchers last season, Boutte and Gilbert. If anyone is built for this, it’s LSU. Ja’Marr did things we’ve never seen a LSU receiver do. The timing isn’t great, but the receivers have cross-trained and will be more than prepared. LSU will be fine.

Can’t wait to see how this works out. The last corner transfer (T Alexander) didn’t work out, but he wasn’t 6’3 playing sticky coverage like this.
The one question is competition. Darren Evans has said in the past that Jazz Ferguson is the best receiver he’s ever played against. Granted, he held Jazz to 2 catches 54 yards 2 year ago, but Jazz Ferguson wasn’t even better than Stephon Sullivan when he was at LSU. But I love the depth move. We couldn’t withstand any potential injuries at first, but now the corner position will be deep *if* he commits.

Seniors who could return next season
Posted by 901Tyga on 8/20/20 at 7:18 pm
With the NCAA’s decision to allow fall sports student-athletes to play without counting this year as a year of eligibility, I decided to look at some LSU players who are seniors that could return next season. I chose players that I think won’t have too big of a role, but can really be helpful for next season. Feel free to add/subtract names.
WR - Jontre Kirklin
S - Cameron Lewis (could be really big with S depth)
LB - Ray Thornton
DE - Andre Anthony/Travez Moore
Racey is a big one to watch too, but I personally don’t see him returning with a decent season. He’s already a draft pick based on his special teams potential alone.
