LONG overdue IMO. Bluetooth is your friend
Neither driving, nor cell phones are human rights. Driving is a privilege and having a cell phone is a luxury, and when you operate a cell phone in your hands while driving and it usually causes a distraction to many in their ability to focus on the task at hand, DRIVING THE VEHICLE, which should be everyone’s chief concern considering the human lives around you that are reliant upon your ability to operate efficiently, it becomes a real safety concern for everyone.
I really don’t see how anyone can argue that, if they drive these streets for any significant amount of time and observe the absurd number of people preoccupied with everything BUT the task at hand of driving a 1-2 ton metal projectile down the road at 50 or 60 mph.

Opponents questioned whether the measure would improve safety, and they suggested the bill would put a burden on the poor by requiring them to buy new equipment.
“A lot of people don’t have cars that have the ability to talk (on the phone) through the car,” said Rep. Robby Carter, a Democrat from Amite.

I agree 100% and I also know I'm guilty sometimes. Hopefully this helps.

Dumbasses will still use hands free cause they’re too stupid or lazy to figure out how to connect their phone to their car.

They cant even enforce the laws that stop people from texting while driving and they think they will enforce this?

If someone calls me, I’m going to answer. I just can’t help myself.

Texting is so much worse. They need to shut off text features while cars are in motion or something. I see people looking down and texting going 80 mph and weaving through traffic.
But I don't hate this law. Who doesn't have bluetooth in 2021?

So all an officer has to say is they saw you on your cell phone? How is this enforceable?

Passed C Denise Marcelle on 110 once. She was in her brand new BMW doing 40 mph in the center lane holding and talking into her phone on speaker.

My dad has a flip phone that work supplies. That phone has no Bluetooth capabilities.

Heaven forbid they have to cut back the unlimited data plan or maybe the cable plan with all the premium channels.

I depend upon it being on the road all day and taking calls, but it’s in my cradle, hooked up to my charger and I press a button on my steering wheel to speak. If a text comes over, or I have an email, I will catch it when I get where I’m going. If you need to get with me in something time sensitive, call, or it can wait.
People often call me to ask whether I got an email or a text, and my response is always the same. I’m driving. I’ll look at it when I get a chance to pull over. Is there something I can do over the phone?

Oregon passed a similar law back in 2017 that went into effect January 1, 2018.
More than 3 years later, I still see drivers using their phones while driving.
