Link to info below:

According to the cops, Blakeney thought he was going to make some easy money.

What ended up happening is everything went to hell and led to Blakeney being arrested for trying to organize an elaborate setup.

According to Blakeney’s arrest affidavit, Osceola deputies responded to a call reporting a robbery on the 7400 block of Marker Avenue around 8 p.m. Wednesday when they saw Blakeney walking in front of the house.

Two victims at the home told deputies they were playing cards when five men walked into the home, pulled out guns and demanded money, records show. The suspects left the home after taking the victims’ money.

A victim told deputies he was invited to play cards with Blakeney and another man at the house around 7 p.m. Shortly after he arrived, five men showed up — three of whom he recognized as Blakeney’s friends who were at the house the night before, according to the affidavit. He said the men demanded Blakeney’s bag before walking Blakeney upstairs, and the other men pointed a gun with “a green laser light attached to it” at the two victims and took their money.

Another victim told deputies when he arrived at the home, Blakeney was video chatting with a man known as “G” and told “G” about the victim’s arrival, to which “G” said he was on the way to the house. Shortly afterward, two men the victim recognized as Blakeney’s friends arrived, and a few seconds later three additional men entered the house. The five then pointed guns at him, the other victim and Blakeney, according to the affidavit.

Blakeney tried to lie but being one of the world’s dumbest criminals he didn’t realize the cops could check his phone records.

Here is what they found.

When deputies spoke with Blakeney again, he denied knowing the suspects and video chatting one of them before the robbery. Blakeney’s phone records showed he was on FaceTime with “G” before the robbery and had contacted someone with the nickname “Trap C4? after the robbery, according to the affidavit. A deputy noted “Trap C4? texted Blakeney “Got your bag” after the robbery occurred, records show.

Blakeney identified “G” as 37-year-old Gregory Mitchell and two of the other suspects as men he recognized. He told a deputy “Trap C4? must have found his bag because he “knows the streets,” according to his affidavit. When a deputy asked how “Trap C4? would have known Blakeney’s bag was missing without talking to Blakeney, Blakeney asked to end the conversation.

Blakeney has since bonded out of jail and his lawyer says he is innocent.

Lol that is absolutely life changing money
do you mean live-changing now, or life-changing for the rest of his life? Because yea, if someone drops $3 million in my lap ($1.5M after taxes, etc) then it would change my life in the short term. But if I spend recklessly and don't save and invest, that "change" will only last a short time.

$3 million in gross salary for a few years is phenomenal, of course. But taxes and agent fees will take about half, so we're down to $1.5 million.

If he invested the $1.5 million, and lived within his means, he should still have most of that.

If he got another job to pay the bills, and kept the $1.5M invested, he'd have a very nice chunk at retirement.

Could he live off the $1.5M now? Well if he invested and withdrew 4% per year, that's $60k. Taxes takes that down to $45k net.

Now, that's nice and is a good boost, but I don't define that as life-changing.

Damn this absolutely sucks.. always liked Blakeney and thought he was on two teams that gave up but he never did.
When Ben Simmons opted out of the NIT to declare for the draft, didn't Blakeny say he wasn't going to play too?

I think an issue is that schools and athletes aren’t taking advantage of their business programs enough to help. I know it’s difficult for some because they’re just taking courses to stay in good standing on the field.

There are a lot of 19-22 year olds that are coming into money for the first time. Some is life changing, but others it can go either way. They’re buying 6 figure Range Rovers and Mercedes for mom and then telling them they don’t have to work anymore and that’s all based off of earnings of a possible 4 year contract.

Most guys needs to live comfortably, but frugal on that first contract and then can really make life changing money on the second contract.

if you are 25 and don't have any income 3 mill wouldn't go very far even with good investments

That’s not life changing money for a kid who never saw that much before.... after taxes and paying agent he would have like 1.5 mil left.... now I could live on that but not a young kid.....

What a bummer. I bet he's blown his NBA money. Probably not a chance he'll go back for his degree...

If he gets convicted of robbery, I'm not sure LSU would welcome him back anyway

Why the NBA doesn't have every new player spend a half hour with Shaq is beyond me.

No doubt, we wouldn't want him around the program anyway. If he's in central Florida, I was thinking one of those converted JUCOs that are now State Colleges.

it depends on what you think "life changing" means.

If someone gave me $50k and I could buy a car with it, then sure, that "changed my life" somewhat.

But it's not "life changing" in the sense that I can substantially alter my lifestyle going forward for the rest of my life -- which is how I think most people define "life changing."

Yeah, for a homeless person, $3000 could be life-changing money, in that it could get them a security deposit and a month's rent on an apartment, plus a very cheap used car.

Now, they have a place to live and a means of transportation, and they can get and work a job and their life is transformed.

On the other hand, (since we're talking about NBA players), if you look at the top ten players in the league, it probably takes almost $1 billion to be "life-changing."

Life changing money is never needing a job ever again. If you need to carefully manage it to avoid going broke inside of 5 years, it’s not really life changing money.
