The Two Towers for me. Simply because it has one of the greatest battle scenes in history in Helms Deep

This.

The arrival of the Uruk-hai at Helm’s Deep in the rain is incredible and terrifying.

The ride of the Rohirrim down the mountain at Helm’s Deep in the morning is better than their ride at Gondor in RotK.

I like The Two Towers for all reasons previously mentioned.

I’m sorry, but that’s blasphemy.

For me it is Fellowship of the ring.

Me too, because it's fresh and just beginning. There's still so much story to go.

Fellowship

The scenery they capture is awesome. All of the main characters are together. It’s a nice transition form pure to dark, whereas the rest of 100% or 95% dark

It has a really, really good flow to it, too

Hard to pick one, but I’m going to go with The Two Towers for one reason. This beautifully done epic scene.

It’s changed over the years. I’ve seen them all several times....

I’d vote them in chronological order:

Fellowship of the Ring
Two Towers
Return of the King

Helms Deep is certainly my favorite fight/battle.

As a kid, 2 was my favorite of the 3.
Having watched them all multiple times now, it’s the Fellowship by far

Two towers
Fellowship
Return of the king

Two Towers has everything. It’s about as perfect a movie as I have ever seen

Two Towers is great, but it does not have the emotional highs as the other two do and it’s more aimless, which granted the later is by design. Fellowship and Return just wrap up everything so well, but again it is still that way by design.

Fellowship is probably my favorite because it was the first glimpse of Jackson’s vision and was done so well. Walking out of that theatre you were convinced he actually could pull it off. Plus, Moria and the last battle with the Orcs were both fantastic.

ROTK though gave us the last ride of the Rohirrim and Eowyn killing the witch king...which were two chill inducing moments....for me anyway.

TTTs was good but I didn’t like how he started getting cartoony with the heroes surfing shields, throwing Gimli, etc. I didn’t need that comic relief and it took me out of the story.

For me a huge Tolkein nerd

ROTK
Fellowhip
Two Towers

ROTK just had too many big moments, though I hated the Green Army of Death.

Bombadil had to be left out for the base viewers. He would just confuse the hell out of them.

As a SciFi/Fantasy nerd I do get the hate for the Hobbit Movie/Trilogy. For me at the end of the day the movie has about as much to do with the book as the IRobot movie does with the IRobot books.

However, if you did not know anything about the books I suppose each of those movies would have some entertainment value..

This is true. Even the hardest of hardcore Tolkien fans can't agree on exactly who or what he was (although my opinion, that he was an Ainu, is undoubtedly the correct one ). Trying to present him to a movie audience in a way they would understand would have been quite a challenge. "So who is this guy, again? He is more powerful than Gandalf or Elrond or even Sauron. Who IS this guy? And explain again why giving him the Ring is a bad idea? Because he's forgetful? Why don't they just ask him to go overthrow Sauron right quick? Wait, his power is basically limitless but only in his little domain? I'm confused. Who is this guy again?"

It’s no more aimless than any great second movie in a trilogy is supposed to be.

I’d also say that the ending is a pretty emotional low/high moment. They’re basically resigned to the fact they’re all going to die so they make a death ride out of the hall into the Uruk-hai, and at the last moment Gandalf arrives with Eomer and the Rohirrim. The arrival of the Elves at Helm’s Deep is a fairly emotional high moment.

One thing I’ve never cared for are the scenes with the Ents. I usually fast forward through the Treebeard scenes when rewatching tTT.
