Or you could just shorten the fantasy regular season to ten-eleven games then start the playoffs

know it seems silly but I actually know several people who only watch NFL games b/c they play fantasy football. Funny that the NFL's greed always has the side effect of chip chip chipping away at their potential fanbase.
It's not silly at all, that's a pretty significant portion of their customers.

We use CBS and this will definitely cause some debates. I’m not even sure of a practical solution. The potential ‘ESPN league’ solution is not a very good one.

Pushing everything back a week seems like a pretty easy solution.

There would still be IRL bye weeks in fantasy playoff weeks.

Might need to just reduce the number of fantasy playoff teams.

While I did forget about the extra game starting this year, personally, I would want more than a final week buffer. There have been cases in the past where certain teams were so far ahead in standings. See colts and Saints in 09 for one example, where teams played their starters minimally in the final weeks.

Add on that this 17th game will have additional wear and tear affects to players on locked in playoff teams. So I can see them trying to reduce action for their stars leading up to the playoffs, even if not entirely ruling them out for those games.

Fantasy playoffs should never ever be held weeks when there are IRL bye weeks.

Fantasy playoffs should never be more than 4 teams anyways. I guess 6 tops if it’s a 12 team league.

Week 15: 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5

Week 16: semifinals

Week 17: Championship

It could suck if your best player is on a bye the week you are trying to make the playoffs, though.

Doubtful.

Fantasy football is primarily responsible for the NFL's popularity growth over the last 20 years.

And the NFL is very aware of the impact fantasy football has had on their sport. Someone dropped the ball big time by overlooking fantasy leagues in the scheduling algorithm.

My guess is any fantasy impact got lost as they focused on combination of other issues. Lingering Covid uncertainty and attendance possibly impacting the schedule, adding a 17th game, and the uncertainty around London games were new factors they had to consider.

Fantasy leagues have been huge for the NFL, but they also know legalized gambling could have a greater impact. Maybe they simply don’t care because they are focused on that.

Which player on any of these 4 teams would be on a fantasy football playoff team? None of the QBs, none of the RBs except maybe that guy on the Eagles? And then maybe Jaylen Waddle at the WR position?

I don’t think it’s that big a deal.

one of my leagues does a 4 team playoff (12 team league) with each round being 2 weeks long. i like it because it's really hard to make the playoffs and then you get 2 weeks each round to help avoid a complete anomaly (still can happen, just less impact).

anyway, that would be playoffs in weeks 14, 15, 16, and 17 so week 14 byes are pretty annoying. not sure what we will do, but there are plenty of options. i would have preferred to keep what we have, but whatever.

Jonathan Taylor and Miles Sanders are both top 10 - 15 backs. Dallas Goedert is a starter too given the lack of TEs in fantasy. Davonta Smith and Davonte Parker are also going to be factors in 12-team leagues.

After doing a bit of research, I don't really understand why this is a story. Last season the Bucs and Panthers had a bye during week 13. So, for the teams with 4 week playoffs, they were still dealing with byes in the playoffs. For teams with 2-3 week playoffs, they still had byes during the last week of the season. So, nothing is changing this season with everything in fantasy pushing back 1 week.

I would just suggest having the semis 1 week and championship 2 weeks

This will screw up 12 team leagues who have 3 rounds of playoffs. Now they will have to do weeks 15-17 and the championship game will have the potential of having important players sitting if their team(s) are locked into the playoffs. This was always intentionally avoided by starting fantasy playoffs around Week 13 or 14. Though Leagues with 2 rounds of playoffs should be ok with week 15-16 fantasy playoffs still.

The season is 18 weeks. This doesn't change anything really.

Totally. Fantasy Football has drawn in so many fans to the sport that this should have probably been taken into consideration. That’s pretty late to have bye weeks anyway.

NFL will fix this going forward, gambling is what makes it king.

w/o gambling, and they are getting Spikeball championship on ESPN2 numbers.
