Rooftop at the ponch hotel or Bouligny Tavern

These would be my recommendations.

ETA: Cure is also a good option

Head down Bourbon and look for a place called “Oz”. Folks will happily give you directions if you ask.

constant shootings in the city yet we are scared. No, it's called a clue. Enjoy your rat nest city though.

Aren't these typically in predictable areas or during predictable times, like Baton Rouge?

Yes.

Ignore the fear mongering morons. Be vigilant and be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine.

Which are rules to go by in every city in the world.

Unfortunately, there are many people on here who exaggerate and promote fear mongering.

Of course. One should always practice this as many people for years have been given this advice when visiting New Orleans. The majority of hotel concierges have been telling tourists this very advice for years.

quote:

Which are rules to go by in every city in the world.

Define every city in the world? Metro populations of more than 500k? City proper populations of more than 250k?

I know homelessness is an issue in most larger metropolitan cities, and I’m still going to be mindful of my surroundings, but I’ve never felt unsafe or had to be extra vigilant in Tampa, Austin, Nashville, Denver, Charleston or Charlotte.

Promoting gratuitous fear isn’t the way to enjoy life and visiting New Orleans, but to ignore and be naive of an acute uptick in crime the past couple of years would be reckless and delusional.

Cool. Glad you agree that you should be mindful of your surroundings in cities

There has been an uptick in crime in almost city in the US the past couple of years.

You basically just said exactly what I said, just wordier.

Cafe brulot coffee- excellent and fire.

Commanders, Arnauds.

Hotel bars (the columns, polo bar at Windsor court, and The carousel bar at the Monteleone) aren’t bad for drinks.

The Davenport at the Ritz. Get a side of beignets too. They are amazing and serve them until they close. Hopefully their jazz band is playing again.
