Always thought they were similar caliber coaches. But to see what Thibs is doing in NY really magnifies how awful a hire Stan was.
Thibs would be killing it in NOLA.

Look at Thibs’ defense with a much younger team in Minnesota and realize that coaches can only do so much, especially when your young stars don’t care about defense.

I agree Thibs is a much better head coach. But unlike Stan's situation here in NOLA, Thib's has a core of defensive veterans that fit his style of play.

See Wiggins and Kat as to why this narrative is false.

His 40 mins a game rotation would be terrible for this team. Let our young guys learn the game while not wearing out their bodies. Get everyone of importance PT/experience

What you said. He would get Zion injured quickly

To be honest I don’t really really care for him either. I want a young coach with this young roster.

Thibs has a roster of castoffs that are on their last team if they don't do things right.
He wouldn't have the same results with this roster.

Van Gundy was dealt a bad hand. He have no defensive players on his team. Thibodeau inherited a team full of established vets that fit his coaching scheme. And the Pels have only had these players two seasons. With no real off-season this season. Next year is make or break for the Pelicans.

By the way our defense has been a top 7 defense these last 20+ games. SVG deserves credit for that. Also these guys are still playing hard

I think the bigger issue is team roster building.
While I am not an Adams hater, I think the reality is we'd be better off with say a Myles Turner.
The bigger issue might be our guard play. We have what...4 'shooting/combo' guards, but 1 true PG?
that's an issue.

I used to think so, but now that we have Point Zion, I don't think that having a "true" PG playing is as important.

Zion can initiate, but he can’t be your point guard. You need an elite pick and roll ball handler.

Exactly
We still need a really competent 1

The Knicks have 2 players averaging over 30mpg, Randle and Barrett. We have 4. Pretty much every stat you can look at when it comes to playing more minutes or player more guys for experience is in the favor of Thibs over Stan this year.
They routinely play 9 guys a night, sometimes 10.
We routinely play 8 guys a night, sometimes 9, and earlier in the year, it was 7.

No one that follows basektball thought either of these guys were good hires for the these teams. Thibs is surprisingly working out, while SVG is not surprisingly not doing well.

Point Zion is good, but when there's another ball handler who can initiate and set up for everyone, it takes a HUGE load off asking Zion to do everything else.
Look at LeBron for example, yes he could average 30/7/7 1st cleveland stint, but miami version was the better all around player. He didn't have to carry such a heavy load offensively which allowed him to be a better defender. And because of that the team was overall more dominant. yes it was with 2 other allstars, but the point being...having another true ball handler could have HUGE dividends for this team.

Nate McMillan was on the street too.

Thibs always been a big market kind of coach
I doubt he had any interest in Pels or ever would
At least the Knicks can bring in the big free agents

Yes. Like Minnesota.
