Unfortunately this situation has occurred before and resulted in fatal consequences.

Excerpt from the NTSB report:

“On April 25, 2000, at 1216 eastern daylight time, an Eurocopter BK117, N428MB, operating as Bayflite-3, collided with a radio transmission tower located on the Weedon Island State Preserve in St. Petersburg, Florida. The air medical flight, Bayflite-3, was operated by Rocky Mountain Helicopters under the provisions of Title 14 CFR Part 91 positioning flight with no flight plan filed. Visual weather conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The medical evacuation helicopter was destroyed; the commercial pilot and his passengers were fatally injured. The local flight departed Bayfront Medical Center, in St. Petersburg, Florida, at 1212, and was enroute to the Bayflite operations at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
According to the operator, Bayflite-3 had completed a patient drop-off and was enroute to the Bayflite operation in Tampa, Florida. The operator also stated that the flight was flying a newly established route from the Bayfront Medical Center to St. Joseph Hospital. The new routing was in response to noise complaints from neighborhoods along the previously direct route.”

Let’s try to shift blame for our pilot’s error by blaming it on people who had nothing to do with making sure the helicopter didn’t crash into something.

I side with the residents. Old helipad area was fine.

shite would piss me off if I owned a home and a helipad popped up across the street on a whim.

Actively and unashamedly rooting for the homeowners.

All jokes aside, these kind of people suck. Move if you have a problem with it. We should care more about a kid’s health than about some yippity uptowner’s safe space

Was updating the pad here 100% safety driven and what’s the incremental gain in safety vs a neighborhood friendly option?

Or was this an easier/cheaper spot?

I genuinely don’t know and am curious

You realize the hospital moved the helicopter pad right?

If it shaved just 10 seconds off of the time it would take to get a critical child from a helicopter to lifesaving treatment, so be it, and frick those spoiled crybabies. The property value in that neighborhood has done nothing but soar every year. They’re full of shite.

Those houses are right next to the hospital. CHNOLA could have kept the helipad next to the river (the hospital as a noise buffer per se) but moved it near to the houses.

Those people just don't get it! Sorry gtfo and sell.

With something as drastic as a helipad addition, I think there’s a bit of fair discussion about filling the gap in the instant loss of value in their homes so they can sell without absorbing the hit, in an ideal situation

New buyer would know what they are in for and problem be solved.

Imagine being a stuck up millionaire complaint about little Timmy getting a heli ride. These people make me sick!

10 seconds will not make a difference in anything.

You are completely missing the point. A hospital doesn’t get to decide where they want to move a helipad without any sort of permits, process, or discussion with the surrounding area. It has absolutely nothing to do with sick or injured children, I cannot understand why so many people keep making this a part of the discussion

Some of y’all seem to think just cause a house is expensive or has gained value that a loss of value couldn’t hurt.

Would you have wanted to buy a house there the week before the plan became public?

This is not the only fatal crash where noise rules played a role.

I get a fair amount of Hartsfield-Jackson traffic where I live, particularly if the President or VP is using Dobbins ARB. I don't mind it. I thank God somebody is actually flying when I hear a jet now.

Same with traffic jams. I'd rather have them than not at this point.

Someone on Reddit mentioned the FAA recommended the new location. Something about the lower elevation of the old location being conducive to prop wash.

As i understand it this is the main problem. They moved the helipad from the old spot to the new spot without any engagement of the neighbors, permits, plan reviews etc.

Also i saw a segment on the news about this and the decibel meter in the people's bedroom was something like a loud rock concert being inside their bedroom. Imagine that ripping in at 3am

The Bruno’s are scumbag ambulance chasers but There’s precedent for these neighbors to win this

The hospital is going to have to pay.
