Got my first quote on replacing all 12 windows on a 40-year-old home I just bought.

Salesman hocked ViWinTech 5100 series double hung vinyl windows. I can provide specific details if necessary. Quoted me $13,850. Limited lifetime warranty including labor and it’s transferable if I ever sold the home.

Seems pricey, but I realize I’m looking at high-end, impact resistant windows. He said they’re rated to 220mph winds, but I’m totally ignorant to windstorm standards. What’s the poop?

About three years ago I basically paid $550 per window for similar window specs (labor + mats). Was only four windows and they were about 36’’ x 60’’.

Was a great deal, so maybe get a few more quotes.

Edit: I have double hung vinyl, wind rated for 150 mph. ProVia Endure

I wonder if the Double Hung is where so much of your added expense is coming in. For reference I have Acadian Windows replacing 19 windows with Vinyl Clad and my installed costs is 10 or $11K for Single hung. They were higher than the Window Worlds type people but Acadians insulating and UV values were better.

Window World was some of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. There’s a reason they have the review feature turned off on their Facebook pages, they suck. It took them 7 trips out over the course of 4 months to install 7 windows, numerous times they’d show up with broken or damaged windows, or incorrect sizes and would have to come back, 3 times they showed up with the wrong sizes, reordered, and rescheduled install, just to show up with the same wrong sizes windows. A couple of our latches never lined up correctly, we’ve long since given up on getting them unfricked. Window World sucks.

Their reviews are still active on Google, looks like not much has changed.

I'd worry less about the " wind rating", and worry more about their installation methods, u factor, coatings, and frame construction/insulation. If you want to geek out on relevant info, research SHGC and NFRC.

Good call. I’ll sit down and read up. What made me interested in these particular windows was the labor/replacement warranty, auto-lock system, weather/noise sealant system, thermal resistance and ease of use. But I really know dick about windows except our current ones hardly open, some don’t stay open, some have cracks, most have condensation inside them and there’s years of caked on grim on the tracks. My wife is flat disgusted with them.

Thanks for the various bits of advice all

I'm having most of mine replaced and will be paying $10,000.

We're going with the argon gas ones.

Last Spring I had Allstate Windows in Kenner replace 16 windows including 3 dormers with vinyl single hung windows and final price was $7400. They were the cheaper of the 3 quotes I got. I did not bother contacting window world after the reviews I read.

Circling back, consider whether you actually NEED new windows. The energy savings are ridiculously exaggerated. Having a flangeless window installed will always be an inherently inferior installation to new construction (flanged) windows that tie into the WRB. Consider the exposure of your windows (how much roof overhang you have) and also your current siding. If you have siding with trimmed windows, consider pulling the siding trim and using flanged windows. If you have brick veneer then the considerations go deeper....

We just did Window World, 28 double hung vinyl, 4 rather large picture windows, and 1 sliding glass door, all Low E double pane. ~$20K installed (2 story home, so there was some extra charges for the 3 upstairs picture windows).

All in all, not too bad.

Yeah, I definitely need new windows. Most have moisture/fog in the dead air. Three have clear hairline cracks in the glass. Several are so encrusted with years of dead bugs/gunk that they are either exceedingly difficult to open or won’t open much at all. All of them have seal issues at various points. They’re 40 yr old windows on a home that wasn’t well maintained.

I got another quote for different vinyls for $12,295, but they’re a step down from the ones in the OP. I have serious concerns these will sag.

Reach out to Tommy’s or Hoffman’s. They’re both installing wincore 5400’s. Great window.

I agree... that window world commercial where the dude says he had some customers tell them their energy bill went do $200 or $300 or whatever it was a month is not possible! Just because a company has big bucks to advertise all over the place does not necessarily mean they are a good company/product. I have heard from several people that the experience and product is very poor

Glad you bumped. Ordered the windows in May. Supposed to be shipped in July, install by end of July. They kept pushing back the timeline. Literally supposed to be shipped today, but haven’t received a call yet. Frustrating, but I don’t know whether to blame the company or Brandon.

My old house is right at 100 years old with double hung, single pane wood sash windows.

WOW, hate to see what it would cost me with 31 windows in my house, especially with most of them on the 2nd floor. Got to be close to $50K at those prices.
