I really like cheese with honey or some sort of jam/preserves. Like a brie grilled cheese with fig preserves or something like that.
A co-worker from Italy got me hooked on a thin slice of a good aged parmigiano reggiano with a drop of honey. Perfect balance of salty and sweet.

A dab of ranch or Caesar dressing in my red beans and rice. I think it's because we always had a salad with red beans growing up and some of the dressing would always mix in with the beans on the plate.

Devi’s Food Chocolate cake and sliced onions, my aunt got me started eating that 40 years ago and I still eat a piece of cake with a slice of onion when we have a chocolate cake, just for memories sake.

watermelon and soy sauce
Tons of people put salt on their watermelon. All soy sauce is, is a frickton of salt.

Prep a cantaloupe by cutting it in half and scooping out the seeds. Use each half as a bowl for vanilla ice cream, scooping out bites of melon with bites of ice cream. Absolutely delicious, but you must have a nicely ripe cantaloupe.
While I don’t think it’s an odd pairing, people I recommend it to seem to think it is.
