Lawyers of the OT: is my former company screwing me?

Quit my job last Thursday, we get paid commission, so in may I was due to be paid for April's sales. They claim they don't owe me crap, but sending me what would be the 1st of the month check, "to be nice". Am I owed anything? I haven't received the paycheck so not sure if they're screwing with me or will actually pay the full amount. Thanks

If you had a contract and the sales were invoiced I'm pretty sure they owe you the money, rookie move BTW, get the check in hand before you tell them you gone.

I thought used car sales was out of control
Why would you quit?

Well you did the right thing by coming here first.

Yes. Commissions are wages and there are steep penalties for fricking around with someone’s wages. Go see a lawyer.

How does McDonalds do that? You get a percentage of how many people you get to SuperSize?

file for unemployment immediately and don't count on a cent from them. you should have waited until payday to quit.

You're owed whatever you earned on commission until the moment you quit. If you closed a deal at noon and quit at 12:30 pm, you're owed that.
Problem is, depending on your state you may have to hire an attorney to help you get what's owed which could become costly. Depending on how much they owe you could be a tough equation.

Did you at least keep any proof of your sales???

Why would you quit before you had your pay? By "quit" do you mean you were told to pack your shite and get out and you screamed "you can't fire me, I quit!"

I’m in sales and they won’t pay for anything after you leave. If I ever leave where I’m at I will accept another job and tell them I can’t start for a month if possible so I get all my commissions.

I quit for a better opportunity. Simple as that. They combine all the stores revenue and Everyone has their own commission rate. It's a weird structure I know but that's how it's been.

Depending on the State, the former employer could be on the hook for the legal fees

Likely depends on how your commission policy is written. If you’re entitled to them though, it’s bad news for your former company if they withhold them. Might be worth seeing a lawyer

Karma for not giving 2 weeks notice

The week before an employee turned in his two week notice and they told him to go ahead and leave. The manager's policy was he didn't want you there for the two weeks.

In most cases and in most states, this is accurate. What does the contract you signed require them to do?
