Would You Drive This? 2022 Honda Civic - now a mid sized car

Honda is arguably the most American of all the Japanese brands, as the overwhelming majority of their revenue is generated in the US and the bulk of their design work is done in California. Honda's are immensely practical and fits in well with what American's value in cars - especially around efficiency, reliability, and ride/handling.
Honda's compact car known most for being reliable, practical, fuel efficient, and American-made is being redesigned.....and is now a midsized car at 184 inches long.

I've owned a 2013 Honda Accord. It was the most enjoyable car to drive that I've ever personally owned despite not being the most powerful or the most sporty. Honda just knows how to properly tune a car for ride and handling. I also had none of the problems with the Honda CVT as what has been reported with so many Nissan CVT's (built by JATCO). Our Accord was completely reliable.
So this new Civic is a very cool car to me. Looking forward to the SI version with the 6 speed manual.

The new Civic has grown so much that it has the same wheelbase and interior volume as the 7th generation Honda Accord, which was a wildly popular mid sized car:
Sadly, now that the Civic has grown so much, there may not be a business case to continue manufacturing the Honda Accord in such high volumes. Especially as buyers in the $30,000+ market turn to crossover SUVs like the CR-V and Passport.

Honda Civic generations tend to alternate between revolution and evolution. The outgoing 10th-generation car took big steps forward in terms of styling and performance, so it stands to reason that its successor features a more conservative redesign. Given the new 11th-generation 2022 Civic’s more mature looks, we think that’s a good thing. The new model boasts cleaner styling, carryover engines, and plenty of new features and upgrades that should result in a useful improvement.
Honda has stretched the Civic sedan’s wheelbase by 1.4 inches and widened the rear track by 0.5 inch. The tortured lines and weird angles from before are gone, replaced by a more flowing design that takes its front- and rear-end designs from the larger Accord sedan. A hatchback model will be coming later, along with Si and Type R high-performance variants that will include zestier turbo engines and manual transmissions. (The Sport model pictured here in red features Honda Performance Development accessories.)
On the more mainstream side of things, the 2022 Civic sedan’s powertrain lineup remains similar. A naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four is standard on LX and Sport models, and a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four is again included on EX and Touring trims. A manual transmission will sadly be relegated only to the eventual Si and Type R, as all non-performance Civics will have a continuously variable automatic transmission for now. The base 2.0-liter has the same 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque but benefits from a new engine start-stop system, while the 1.5-liter engine gets a 6-hp and 15 pound-feet boost for totals of 180 hp and 177 pound-feet. EPA fuel-economy estimates are up by between 1 and 2 mpg depending on configuration.

We expect pricing to rise slightly along with the 2022 Civic’s more upscale demeanor, so look for the LX to start around $23,000 and the Touring to crest the $30,000 mark. Honda says the new Civic will be arriving at U.S. dealerships this summer.

I personally like the current civics. Good style and size

I probably wouldn’t. I’m a truck guy.
But that’s not a bad looking car.

Didn’t read the details in your post, but I’ll say this, it honestly looks better than the current version of the Accord.

Would I drive it? Yes. Would I buy it? Prolly not.

It looks just like the Accord. Nissan did the same with the Sentara which now looks just like the Altima.

The current Civic is a very good looking car IMO. Honda really put money into that segment while other automakers were letting their products get stale (Chevy, Ford, VW).
Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai now own that market. And IMO Honda is the best available even now, although none are bad.

They have always had the reliability but finally catching up on the styling which they have lacked for many years.

The new Sentra looks REALLY good too.
Only the Mazda3 looks better in that segment, although it's a bit smaller than the new Civic.

Eh, as long as they continue to put a CVT in it, it will look really good sitting in the shop.

My parents wanted me to help them get a car because they hate negotiating and know nothing about buying cars. We went and test drove a few Hondas and Toyotas because I told them they'd be foolish to buy anything else.
They test drove a Camry and Rav4 on the Toyota lot. They didn't want anything bigger than a small SUV.
They test drove an Accord, CR-V, and a Civic on the Honda lot. I was hesitant of them getting the Civic because I had always thought of the Civic as a being a compact car.
I was VERY SURPRISED at how big the Civic was. I was in the back seat and found it to be "okay." I'm 6'3"+ and about 225 lbs. and was comfortable in the back seat. Overall, the car was a lot more roomy than I thought.
In the end, they went with the Accord because we got a good deal on it but I think they would have been happy getting a Civic as well.

I think the current Civic looks great.

They were always cost a little more than others in their vehicle class and in this case you do get what you pay for.
I drive trucks but it's worth considering if I was looking for a car.

I cannot get beyond a CVT, maybe Honda’s would be ok bc I know they tune them better, but Nissan’s are a disaster. I owned an Altima for years and it never became less annoying. That noise!
I really wish Honda would have put their 2.0T with the 10 speed in the new Civic. That would be a phenomenal offering.

No, but I'd drive the hatchback sport in a second.
And obviously the type R.

that honeycomb looking ac vent built into the dash will be a bitch to clean

I had a 2016 Civic for 3 years and it was a pleasure to drive, got good gas mileage and was comfortable for even 4 tallish adults to ride in. Biggest complaint i had was that it was pretty low to the ground so it was hard for older people to get in. Also it was hell on tires at times.

Back in the day, I drove a car exactly like this
Crazy to think that car turned into what you posted I personally wouldn't buy one for me, but that looks like it will be a solid option in 11 years when my daughter starts driving.
