The full story, according the only survivor and witness, is finally out on the Reelfoot Lake shooting in TN.

Outdoor Life Article

Still doesn’t quite make sense to me but the guy was very consistent with his story. Long but interesting read.

If he had dementia, it can cause you to do strange things. Murder is not something I’d associate with it but I guess he could have thought they were trespassing on what he thought was his blind and he became so agitated that he was going to settle it like he did. I can’t understand.

What about the snippet where the authorities smelled the propane from a ways off and found burnt paper towels in the grill? Are they suggesting the old man made it to the blind to warm up or is it the survivor trying to burn down the evidence? That’s an odd part of the story too

I had a few soldiers homestead a spot around here not far from my blind and another groups blind. I drive up to speak to them about it and they said we used to hunt Reelfoot and those blinds are closer than these here. I said I don't care about Reelfoot, I care about around here. They then say they spoke to the local game wardens about building a blind and they (wardens) say don't build it close to anybody else's blind. I see now why they thought it would be okay after hunting that close at Reelfoot. And I also recommend to them to hunt a blind out here that is not being used which there were several at that time. Could of been me.

quote:

“You really had to piss him off to make him mad. I mean, he was the type of person that would take and take and take. And then, finally, you push him off the cliff. He’s gonna—he’s gonna express his feelings, I guess you would say,” Gingras says, noting that Vowell never said anything more about the argument. “He kind of blew it over his shoulder and let it go. David’s not the type of guy to carry really anything on his shoulders … Yes, we’ve had arguments over ducks, but you know, this—the [shooting] wasn’t over a duck.”
