Devonta Smith will be on the IR by Week 9 if he doesn’t gain about 30 pounds by training camp.

I see More of a taller DeSean Jackson.

I think He’ll be a good pro.
He will have issues with NFL Cbs who want to get their hands on him.

It’s like you guys don’t even care about how big he is. Ignore it all you want, but a body as thin as him with professional football players that are masters at working out, taking care of their bodies, strong men, he may not last. I think the chances of him not lasting outweighs the chance of him having a long career. The kid had 4 years in an elite weight program and still is undersized

You don't think Smith went up against NFL caliber talent every day at practice and on game day?

Especially when he goes to a team with less than stellar talent and depth that can’t prop him up like he has at BAMA.

going up against NFL talent is not the same as going up against active NFL players. Players get bigger and stronger in the league than they were when they were 18-22 years old. Just because a smaller player doesn't get hurt in college doesn't mean that can't happen in the NFL. Look at smaler player like Tyrann Mathieu. He never missed a game in college. Since entering the NFL, he's had two ACL tears and had a shoulder injury that cost him ~6 games a few years ago. I'm not saying Smith will def have issues staying healthy, but to totally disregard his size as not mattering at all is pretty short-sighted

Steve Smith was built like a brick shithouse and was stronger than an ox.

I see a lot of Calvin Ridley in Devonta Smith's game.

And illogical, the measureables still matter to a degree, appears to me DeVonta has great intangibles and runs great routes but size going against NFL DBs and linebackers can make a difference in ways, we will see, Smith reminds me of a taller Joey Galloway only slightly slower

I don't think that TM7's injuries had much to do with him being small...

Marvin Harrison was not just a possession WR. Look back at some of the early film his time at Syracuse and from when he first came into the league, he was fast. His speed along with excellent route running allowed him to get separation. His 40 at the combine was a 4.49 and in college he ran a 4.38.

I didn't say he was slow. I said his tyle of play was different than Smith's. Go look through a lot of his game logs. I'll just pick his best season in 2002

11/144
12/150
11/99
14/138
11/107
9/101
10/128

He caught a shite load of balls within 10 yards of the LOS and usually used his quick hips and route running to pick up yards after the catch. He was not the guy streaking down the field for bombs like Smith has made a career doing at Alabama. That doesn't make him slow. It just makes his style of play different than Smith's. I'd compare Jerry Juedy's game to Harrison's more than I would Smith's.

Not at all, but using common logic, it literally NEVER affected him when playing against guys that are similar in size to NFL players. If it was actually a problem, then wouldn't that have manifested itself at least once in 4 years in the SEC?

Didn't seem to be an issue when he torched "DBU" for years.

I’m sure plenty will.

But plenty won’t.

One thing That stand out is how rarely teams even try to jam him despite him being 160 pounds

At 165lbs, I’m sure Devonta will be fine in the NFL with all those open lanes to run through and those slower and not as talented DBs running the same speed with him.
How is Stingley going to play in the NFL if he couldn’t keep a 160 pound college WR from cooking him?

TM7 has played in 63 of his last 64 regular season games. The one missing was a healthy scratch after the Chiefs clinched homefield. He also has played 4 times as many NFL seasons as he did college seasons so of course he'd have more injuries

Also lol attributing ACL tears to size. frick one of them was completely non-contact LINK

He's had two season-ending injuries and another that caused him to miss more than 1/3 of a season in 8 years in the NFL. That's not a small number. Regardless, Mathieu is just one of many examples of smaller players in the NFL who had injury issues. Bob Sanders, for example, seemed like he was hurt more than he was healthy despite being one of the better safeties in the league for years. I mean do you really need me to list dozens of examples for you, or are you going to try to convince yourself that size isn't an issue for NFL players because a guy from your favorite college team is small? I'm not saying that it will definitely be an issue for Smith but simply that it can present concerns. Is that just too much for you to accept? I mean, hell, y'all said the same exact things about Mathieu when he was in the draft and when he was in college (that he was too small for the NFL). Flash forward 8 years later, and it's not fair to discuss the same issues with Smith? Amazing
