Milo's is an Alabama thing. Everyone I've taken there from out of state or out of country hasn't enjoyed it. It's an acquired taste I believe.

sadly, I agree, and I have been a long time avid Whataburger devotee

Not sure why all the down votes. I've frequented Whataburger for decades. Most Texans I know will agree there was a noticeable difference in quality in 2019. I still go there and will stop at Whataburger before In And Out 10 out of 10 times.

well, they have to hire locals I suppose

This is why I always chuckle when people are begging for other breastraunts to open up along with the existing Twin Peaks and Hooters, and they name the talent as the reason for wanting the new place. The same girls that work at Hooters/TP will work at the new place. There aren't these secret beautiful women hiding in waiting for the right breastraunt

Freddy's is surprisingly good and clean. The Jalapeno thing in the OP is better than any burger they've got, but overall Freddy's is much better than most alternatives

Freddy's burger is superior to Whataburger although Whataburger is very good.

The shitty fast food place that everyone raves about is Zaxby's, which is near the Freddy's on Millerville. It's a chicken finger place with bad chicken fingers. WTF?

Zaxbys is not good at all. It seems like all their food is super dry for some reason.

Not on the menu at any of my local ones anymore. You can special order it but it's like $13.

yep, some of those type chains used to have an "opening" crew that they would bring in, the first string, if you will, to get the place of to a good start and once they establish a decent clientele they would pull out and let the locals take over

Extreme fast food hype has always been kinda weird to me. To like a place and think it is good for fast food totally makes sense. But the Religion of CFA or In-N-Out or whatever is strange to me. At the end of the day, even if they're good, they're still just FF burgers and chicken tenders. Strange thing to hold as high up that you basically identify as a follower.

I've had friends who just HAVE to stop at In-N-Out or Buccees on road trips, and I'm thinking of all the amazing places to eat there are in Houston that aren't gas stations or fast food.

Jalapeno burger on an extended road trip is a bold choice! Solid fast food burger though.

How else do you want me to say it? They were fast before covid, which would be 2019. I didn't mind pulling in when there were 15 cars waiting. I'd get my food in 5 minutes. It was very Chik-fil-a like as they would have people taking orders outside.
I could go today and there could be 6-8 cars waiting and it'll take at least 15 minutes for me to get my food. I've literally left the line after waiting a few minutes b/c the line wouldn't move recently.

They had a sign up in the drive thru for a spicy chicken sandwich that looked appetizing.

It was dry and disappointing. To be honest, as much a fan of their burgers (as much as one can be about a fast foot burger), and enjoy their grilled chicken taco, their fried chicken tenders and fried chicken sandwiches are extremely underwhelming.

If we're referring to the Whataburger on Siegen Lane, then you're completely wrong. They were never fast. Like ever.
