NCAAF "Super League"

I was listening to ESPN "The Fan" here in Columbus today during lunch and they were discussing what is happening with the 12 Soccer teams in Europe wanting to form their own "Super League". They discussed if we could ever see this potentially happening in the NCAA? A P5 breakaway from the NCAA has been discussed numerous times on this board, but what if the following schools decided to form a 18 team "Super League" for Football...Could it work? They were talking in terms of name brand, historical success and from a national audience perspective, how these teams are consistently the tops in the nation.
EAST:
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Notre Dame
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Clemson
WEST:
LSU
Wisconsin
Texas
Texas AM
Oklahoma
Nebraska
USC
Oregon
UCLA
6 team playoff. Both division winners get a bye. 2nd and 3rd place play each other on a neutral site. Again, just going off of the schools they were suggesting. Imagine the amount of money this kind of league would make though? This would cause some major break ups, but would be so interesting to see play out. I thought it was an interesting topic. Especially with name, image and likeness about to happen. Crazy talk or possible?

If it forces OSU to play someone with a pulse during the regular season, I’m all for it

frick all that. College football is all about tradition and this would destroy a ton of tradition along the way

What happens when some of these teams don't ever win anything and start having losing records? Do they break away and form their own league?
Can't keep downsizing NCAAF, or else it will become a boring sport. These "Super Teams" need the smaller teams just as much as the smaller teams need the "Super Teams."

Not trying to make everything about dem tigahs, but they would win that division more times than not.

Any league that uses a bullshite "brand name" criterion to let in teams like Michigan, Nebraska and UCLA over better-performing teams is wrong. Everything doesn't have to be "made for television."

As an LSU fan I’m all for it. In your OP, we end up in an easier division than what we have now

Only if there is a second tier league with relegation. Bottom 2 are dropped down and top 2 from 2nd tier are moved up each year. Would be great throughout college sports.
Not sure why no American professional leagues have adopted this. Would make for more teams and more local pride.

But...you would watch that league and you know it.

If you did this based on the BCS era alone, UCLA and Nebraska (and probably Michigan) would have already been dropped for teams like Iowa, Stanford, VA Tech and Washington.

I could get on board with that. People have no idea how this Name, Image and Likeness is going to change things. There are honestly only about 15-20 schools who are going to be able to keep up with the big brands. Middle of the pack college football programs are going to become even more "have nots".

If the NCAAF Super League is like the European Super League, Tennessee would probably be in that league (which shows how much of a farce it is).

The Super League is retarded. Shitty "brand name" clubs like Arsenal and Spurs got in just from popularity. Same shite would happen in college football with your plan. The Super League will sacrifice European tradition and pageantry for money, same thing is already happening to college football.

Consolidate the "Power-5" to 4 major conferences
You can do this by rejecting schools like Vanderbilt
Play standard regular season....Determine a conference champion and then a final-4 to select national champion
