Just picked this up on Steam a couple of nights ago. I've always liked SimCity and RTS games like this. It's been a while since I've played one though.

I've only got the deluxe version of the game.. no DLC or addons, etc yet. Figured I'd play the vanilla version a while til I got the hang of it.

Been watching the City Planner Plays youtube channel for this game. A real city planner playing using his expertise in planning and working with what the game offers. Very interesting watching him build.

Anyone else play this? Offer any good advice for beginners learning the game?

I'm still trying to figure out the best square sizes... 8x14 seems to work well for the city planner guy..

Fun game, good AI, cool graphics.

Do whatever you find works. Don't build too dense.

El pres traffic mod for sure.

Watch some Biffa videos and learn how to use "lane mathematics" to help manipulate traffic AI. City Planner guy sometimes uses lane mathematics and sometimes doesn't, so it's probably better to learn traffic management design from Biffa.

Solid game. A few of the DLC's make it worth it. The Industry DLC is a MUST have.

It turns it into its own mini-game where you can district certain industries that can feed other industries.

ex: You can build a lumber specific area which will transport supplies to other manufacturing districts. Really brings the game alive.

Just keep an eye on Humble Bundle. They routinely have huge sales on DLCs. Just snag them whenever they go on sale.

Fun game, have it on console. Only issue I have is the traffic AI - they pretty much only use one lane and it gets backed up really bad. I think on PC there are mods you can get that fix it though.

I have it and love it.

My only problem was trying to keep traffic low and cims dying in waves and they can’t be transported

Got one of my cities up to 115,000 before it was out of control

Check out T4rget Gaming on YouTube. He's doing another beginner series right now actually. He goes into concepts a bit. His past series are all good.

He's very tranquil too if you have a normally stressful life.

Fun game, but once people start dying en masse it's almost impossible to manage. They really need to fix that problem.

If you like traffic headaches, this game is for you. My issue is that it doesn't allow enough zoomed-in detail in design to fix specific traffic issues like you could in the real world. I also used to be a IRL urban designer and not a planner, so maybe that's why I always got frustrated at the level of design. I get much more enjoyment out of Planet Coaster because you can get really detailed in your designs.

I also fell into this channel a couple months ago and I'm addicted. Thought about buying the game but called a mulligan because I know how much time it would take to play and I need to do something more productive

Biggest advice: this isn’t a city builder as much as a traffic simulator.

Traffic simulation has always been a thing, but Skylines takes it to a level you might not expect/realize.

Every single vehicle is doing a task with a effect. Transporting goods(for businesses to sell or as raw material for production)/cims/services.

Every. Single. One

So if you plop a fire station on a one way, it has to send trucks all the way around into to respond to a call up stream.

I’ve racked up 255 hours. Recently just built a fairly nice city.

Cities tend to get boring whenever the tax base is high enough to support positive cash flow. After that happens, might as well move on to another city.

No, it’s quite fun, or I wouldn’t have spent 11 days of my life playing it.

I always loved city building games like SimCity but my playthroughs usually end up with me building an interesting city to a decent size before losing interest and destroying everything with natural disasters.
