If some guys are stuck behind air tight doors, how would the rescue happen without flooding the room they are in?

doubtful they would still be alive. in your scenarios the divers would have a spare breathing apparatus to give them I am assuming.

what i dont understand is they had a couple of guys that were on the outside of the boat and they said they were going back in. why would they not have used a helicopter to lift them out?

1) weather channel just did a demo of sorts about how air pockets work. They’d go in from the bottom of the vessel as if they’d cut through the top it’d fill with water and all would be lost.

2). Spencer Gremillion on fb who knows some of these guys is giving updates. He said that the weather was too bad and that the two rescued almost didn’t get rescued and one was lost. That’s when the two went back inside. I just don’t understand if it’s too bad to get them how did the guys manage to catch the radios/life vests they were thrown? But then again I’ve never been out anywhere in those conditions so I’m in now way judging efforts. Just trying to understand.

I can’t answer that question. I know captain Ledet and another crew member managed to get out but chose to go back in to save lives and sacrificed their lives in doing so. The other captain got out by kicking a window that is designed to be pushed out in an emergency and he survived. Most of that boat crew had been together for many years and knew that boat inside and out, lack of experience or judgment was not the cause of this tragedy.

I have been tuned out for a couple days but from the outside it definitely looks like the CG dropped the ball on this rescue. Go look at some of the rescues conducted in Alaska or Atlantic.

Not all helos are all weather capable / equipped . The cutter first on scene is not even commissioned yet was on sea trials and probably not authorized or manned for rescues. I seriously doubt the coasties dropped the ball..

Another general question: when you see the lifeboats showing in the photo of the boat, it appears they’re under — if you were on the boat and needed to get to these how would you do that? The photo May be deceiving and they’re actually in the side and not under??

Its just difficult to understand how two guys with lifejackets and radios went back inside and died.

Somebody got some explaining to do. What was their condition upon reentering? What was the inside like? Hopefully radio transmissions will be released at some point so families can understand.

Question I haven't seen asked, is there cell phone reception where they are? I would think not but don't know.

Even if they found an air pocket at some point they run out of air, right?

8 miles offshore it’s certainly possible depending on what service and plan you have.

I know Verizon has an offshore plan and you can get service 150 miles offshore. Most platforms host cell towers.

Or a SAT phone is always an option

For where they are, it's kind of iffy. I've got AT&T and I'm pretty sure I don't get service 8 miles out of Fourchon.

Are you assuming they are dead? Or has that already been confirmed?

Assumption since they had radios and coast guard says there has been no contact.

But when did they lose contact?? I hope the families are updated on these things

Pretty sure I heard on the news that Tuesday night was the last contact.

Screenshot from the first video that came out. 2nd pic more recent.
It seems like it has sunk down more and the door that they came out of at first is probably underwater now. Just getting worse that this weather has delayed them so much.
