But then you would be living in West Virginia

quote:

West Virginia is opening up its arms — and importantly its wallet — to lure in those likely to be working from home for some time after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state announced on Monday it would give people $12,000 cash with no strings attached to move to its confines. Also included is one year of free recreation at the state's various public lands, which it values at $2,500. Once all the particulars of the plan are added up, West Virginia says the total value to a person is $20,000.

The initiative is being made possible after a $25 million donation from Intuit's executive chairman (and former long-time CEO) Brad D. Smith and his wife Alys.

"I have the opportunity to spend a lot of time speaking with my peers in the industry in Silicon Valley as well as across the world. Most are looking at a hybrid model, but many of them — if not all of them — have expanded the percentage of their workforce that can work full-time remotely," Smith told Yahoo Finance Live about the plan.

Yeah, but I don't want to have to burn my couch.

Pretty sure Bentonville, Arkansas will give you $10,000 and a bicycle to move there.

Though I'm not sure how far $10k will get you in Bentonville.

I’ll take a couple of acres close to the mountains, there’s enough meth heads where I live, i probably won’t know the difference except for the weather

Probably farther than that bicycle will.

WV is absolutely gorgeous.
Went up in 2011 for a week when LSU played. Had a blast.

I'd take the money and move to White Sulphur Springs.

Yes it is, completely puts LA to shame. We have nothing but heat, humidity, hurricanes, and shite topography. I would love to live there, it's negatives aren't any worse than this crooked poor arse state.

If you choose to isolate yourself...wv is great

If you like 4 wheelers, sxs, and dirt bikes the Hatfield Mccoy trails are 2nd to none in the lower 48

Differences between WV and LA

1. Lack of jobs that pay in WV
2. literally ZERO nice cities with good food in WV
3. LA has better fishing
4. LA has an NFL franchise
5. cold as hell in winter so outdoor activities are not as diverse during those months
6. Think LA people are dumb, go talk to a cashier at a gas station in WV.

It is a gorgeous state. Nice weather. I've rafted the New River under this bridge.

Fun fact, the New River is one of the oldest rivers in the world.

Did you miss the part where this was for people to work remotely?

Mid 40s isn't "cold as hell".
