In principle I agree. But part of me thinks about the awakening a lot of us had in 2016, and how we stopped settling for pretenders. I, like you, am pretty libertarian minded. But a lot of this goes beyond even the policy. I think it doesn’t matter who gets put in office; if they are not a democrat, in the modern media climate, they will be persecuted hammer and tongs. Trump was the first President I have ever seen tell the media to go frick themselves instead of caving. It may be irrational, but seeing what the media have become in the face of someone who challenges them makes me root for that person that much harder. DeSantis definitely deserves his day in the sun, and I hope he eventually does win the presidency. Hell, I’ll vote for him in November 2024. But if Trump is up for it, I know who is getting my vote.

I have never been so committed to a particular person this far from the next (first term) election as I am now with DeSantis - to me he is the real deal.

Full Disclosure - At this point in 2013, I was thinking seriously of Kasich before I got to know him better = was judging entirely on his performance in congress during the Clinton debacle.
