Depends on the weight. I have a 2020 Sierra 1500 with the 5.3, Its rated to pull 9600lbs. Before 2015 that would have been a 3/4 ton.

Braking would be the main issue here. Transmission would also take a beating.

It would be pretty retarded to buy a fifth wheel camper and tow with a 1/2 ton, but that’s just my opinion.

I don't know the answer, but I am wondering what are the reasons you want a fifth wheel? Why not get a long bumper pull?

Whats the tow rating of the truck and whats the weight and pin weight of the 5th wheel.

I've seen some guys pulling 5th wheels with half tons but they were pretty small.

I did. 27' Wildcat with slide. 2011 f150 SC Ecobost short wheel base with heavy tow package, Superglide sliding hitch and flow thru tailgate. From stock only thing I changed was tires and added set of Super springs . Truck came with P rated tires which are car tires and sidewall flexed which made truck hobby horse. 10 ply Firestones took care of that. Springs added to level as truck went 1" past level, was ok, I just didn't like it. As long as trailer brakes are set correctly stopping was fine. Never had to panic stop. Truck was made to pull and pull and it did. FYI anyone looking for Superglide and flowthru tailgate hit me up.

Ignore the “towing capacity” of your truck. Look at the sticker on your driver door jamb for your payload capacity. The pin weight of the 5th wheel plus everything in your truck (cargo and passengers) needs to be less than that payload capacity.

No, airbags will not increase your payload capacity.
