Y’all are making a micro issue (Netflix snagging up any “original” content that has any name recognition attached to it so they can fill out their library) about a macro issue (franchises in cinema).
So about franchises....
Movies/TV are a business. They exist to make a profit. If people love a product (IP) and are willing to continue to pay you to produce it and if continues to make a profit for you, why wouldn’t you continue to make it? Should Ford stop making the F150? McDonald’s stop making Big Macs? Sony stop making TVs or PlayStations?
People want new and original content yet those same people refuse to go out and see the new and original content that comes out in a given year (in non China Flu times). What’s ironic though, is if you do make something new and original and everyone does go see it, then it could lead to a sequel. Will you be complaining about franchises then?
John Wick wasn’t planned to be a franchise. It was just a low budget R rated action/revenge movie and it’s grown from there.

Exactly. There's original films every month. People just don't show up to watch them.

I saw somewhere that Craig was out but that they’d already found his replacement:

Explain why Star Wars is now a load of crap, then

It was a great watch and a surprisingly good movie but why does it need a sequel much less two? Always with the sequels and prequels.

And I would say it was great so we’re all tied up

$400 million seems quite insane for sequels to that movie. And don't get me wrong, I enjoyed that movie. But upwards of half a billion dollars for two sequels seems like it's, I don't know, several hundred million too much.
But I guess when you're Netflix and you have (I believe) 209 million subscribers, and are generating billions PER MONTH in revenue, you can do shite like this. So good for them.

Fun fact, Netflix actually operated for 10 years under as much as $16 billion worth of debt. They are just now starting to pay it back.

They don’t care about quality, only quantity. And they have the stupidest screen limits policy. Disney Plus is less than half the price and you can be on up to 10 devices watching content at once. Netflix’s max is 4 and by that point you’re paying nearly 3 times as much as Disney plus.
It's really getting hard to justify paying for it at this point, and with wasteful deals like this the cost will only increase.

Women suck.
It’s no coincidence that the best thing going in Star Wars is what Kennedy least has her hands on.

The smart thing for them to do would be to slow down and start working on creating quality but that’s just never going to be their thing. That will be Disney Plus. They’ll never compete with Netflix’s catalogue but the content they put out will be very high quality and very well thought out. Netflix green lights random shite all the time and it dilutes the truly great stuff on there and makes some of it harder to find just because of the sheer volume.
I don’t imagine I’ll ever get rid of Netflix unless they start charging double what they’re charging now. Still, I use HBO Max way more
