My bro was told to “fill up the oil”. So he filled ‘er up to the top of the valve cover. bye bye engine.
Guilty. Fortunately my boss caught me on about the ninth quart, so not too much damage to anything except my ego. I was oblivious.

Turns out I forgot to make sure/inspect that the OLD O-Ring off the old oil filter came off
The old double gasket! Learned about that working at a tire shop when I watched the other young guy make that mistake on a brand new 2005 Mustang GT. He cranked it up and oil just blew out everywhere. Luckily it didn’t get down the street.
Not necessarily a teaching moment but still some teenage dumbassery, in my parents’ neighborhood you could get air from one of the cross streets if you were doing about 75+. So we’d haul arse down the main drag in a subdivision to get air and we’d even sometimes do it in the rain. I still shake my head thinking about how dumb that was and how much could have gone wrong.

I was teaching my daughter how to cast while we were in a boat. In hindsight I probably should have done this from the bank. She is good on the hook set.

Let me know when you drain all the fluid out of you transmission and put twice as much oil in the motor that you are supposed to.
This was my mistake when doing my first oil change with my first car. Good to hear I'm not alone!

Been there , twice . Once in thigh and one in stomach . Don't fish without shirt anymore as I am now old and fat . Not worried about wearing shorts as I have stork legs .

My dad once drove his truck to the oil lube shop to have the oil changed in my moms car.

My Dad got us a go cart when we were kids. He wanted to show my brother and I how to drive it first and he promptly went into the cane field and flipped it. We still laugh about it 25 years later. “See boys, that’s what your not supposed to do!”

Just do the George Carlin "cat" thing and tell them, "I meant to do that".

back in the day my brother (high school age) changed the oil in his very new truck and cross threaded the oil plug. His buddies drove the truck to Austin from Houston (he was already in Austin - for some reason without is truck) and they didn't notice the oil pressure gauge or temp gauge. Burned up the engine. That was an expensive lesson!
