That's what I said. Countdown is a better more metal version of the Black Album. It's really a perfect album. The only song I'm not crazy about is High Speed Dirt.

I’m too lazy to list 5 but Rust in Peace is a classic. Great from start to finish.

I would have listed it years ago, but for some reason it doesn't have a lot of replay value to me lately.

Today I was listening to Cryptic Writings. I forgot how great Mastermind is. I think it might actually be the best rhythm riff behind the solo in Mustaine's massive oevre of such riffs.

This list right here, pretty much. The line-up with Friedman and Menza will always be Megadeth, as I see them.

The furthest out from this era that I really dug an album of theirs was "The System has Failed."

It's difficult to discuss Megadeth without talking about Metallica. If "Countdown" is Mustaine's "Black Album," which record do you see as Megadeth's "Load"?

Do you think it's only coincidence that both bands tried their hands at more accessible hard rock at roughly the same time? And has their ever been a time when Megadeth seemed to have the upper hand or came close to overtaking Metallica? Seems Dave's always been snake-bitten when it comes to such stuff. Even Metallica's laughable documentary, "Some Kind of Monster," somehow managed to make Dave look even worse than it did Hetfield and Ulrich. No easy task...

I really hated the way Mustaine changed his vocal delivery from Countdown forward. It just sounds whiny. Some metal bands benefitted also from the rougher production sound of their early stuff and I think that's definitely true of Megadeth.
