I’m guessing you prefer Johnny Cakes?

This is like watching Star Wars in 2000 and complaining that the special effects looked like shite. The show didn't happen in a vacuum. You have to consider the state of television when it first aired and its impact at that time.

OP makes some good points. Sapranos prolly ranks in that 4-6 range of all times for me. I don't see how you can knock the ending of Lost or GOT but give the Sapranos a pass for their ending. They literally just stopped, there was no ending. That's why I'd rank shows like BB and The Wire above it. It's hard to end an iconic series like that but you have to at least try.

It's my number 2 behind Breaking Bad but I agree about the Pine Barrens episode, I never liked it. Maybe it's because I couldn't stand Paulie or Tony Sirico but I usually skip it

The Soprano's ending was pretty brilliant, as noted above you have to take into account television at that time. Visionary stuff honestly.

This is not true.

The black screen was Tony's point of view. How hard is that to figure out?

Watching the first season of Columbo from 1971 and its still way ahead of The Sopranos and The Wire.
Never watched an entire season of Columbo but this seems a bizarre take. Did it have a continuing story line? The Sopranos weren't the first to do it but I just can't see comparing any series of stand-alone episodes to masterpieces like Sopranos or the Wire. Hill Street Blues, Wiseguy, Babylon 5 all did story arc tv pretty well before The Sopranos came along but Columbo? WTF?

I'm only 30 and still consider the sopranos the goat tv series I've watched it 3 times start to finish and always seem to pick up on new things.
It's also got a weird nostalgia for me even though I was so young when it originally aired.

Breaking bad was very good but it isn’t nearly as complex as The Sopranos. It lacks any real humor. The number of characters with significant impacts on the show is far less. There is less strategy and evolution of characters beyond Walt. It’s great but it’s a step below the Sopranos.
Go rewatch with Steve Shirippa and Michael Imperioli as they rewatch. It’s incredible the song choices, social undertones and reoccurring themes that are persistent throughout the show. It’s unbelievable

Some fair points, but to some degree that's like going back and watching Buck Rodgers and going "what is this crap?"
You are a bit spoiled because of all the great stuff that came after, and because of, the Sopranos.

It really is amazing that so many people still fight against the obvious conclusion Tony died. David Chase played coy about it for a while to keep the show alive but he eventually slipped up and flat out said Tony is dead. Looking back on it I think it was a perfect ending

Same, but I'm referring to teenagers now probably not getting much of the context of the time. I def remember mob news stories and what not. The series is very nostalgic though I agree, N64, old Coca Cola and Bud Light logos, the cars, the political and social stuff going on that the characters discuss. makes me feel old.
