If you want “glass half full” type of shite, then look at our two starters. Jaden Hill should’ve been pulled after the first guy got on base but because he stayed too long, Hilliard allowed all the guys he left on base to score.

His stat line should have been 7.0 IP, 6 H (Cause he gave up 3 Hits in the 8th), 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

I know the 6 ER counts but perspective and looking at what he did to the country’s #3 team thru 7 innings was good.

Landon goes 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K

These two guys did everything they could and our hitting just sucked. It happens. CPM needs to lockdown his infield and Milazzo needs to start hitting cause he is our catcher, hands down.

But experience is a factor and we have 6 guys in our starting lineup that have never faced SEC Pitching and MLB prospects like these two guys yet. Tomorrow is a going to be beautiful wether by first pitch and is a prime candidate for us to wake up on offense. Would be nice to slam State 10-3 tomorrow.

Well you almost nailed it with the 10-3 prediction.

I don’t agree. We were behind and probably going to lose no matter what. So, if Mainieri pulls Hill he’s not going to waste our best relievers in an almost definite loss. So the choice was, put in our B slate or let Hill go longer. I have no problem with stretching Hill a little more.

I would like to have seen Hilliard start off with his curve ball.

Hill needs to show what he’s got. Like Ben said, he is still raw. He doesn’t have the miles that some of these others have and will need the innings ie experience.

The one thing that bothers me a little, but not too much is his Ks/9 isn’t where it should be for his velocity. I suspect though that will be an advantage at some point because he pitches to contact. When he learns a 4th pitch like the split, he will kill people with that 97 mph FB. I think the reason why he doesn’t really have a true KO 4th pitch is his lack of experience.

You don’t need a 4th pitch to strike out hitters at the college level. The change up is a wipeout pitch but the fastball and breaking ball aren’t consistently electric YET. Could definitely get there.

He needs to show his change more. Got some ugly swings early & never really saw it again

Model off a guy like strasburg

Power pitcher with a great change & curve

50% FB
30% CB (slider in Hill’s case)
20% CH

I guarantee Hill’s FB % is way above 50. His K’s would spike if he showed more off speed

I’d be happy with just an 8-3 slam.

Our starting pitchers kept us right there for 7 innings. That’s all you can ask. You have to put pressure on the other team and score some runs.

Through ORU, it was about 70%

Hill’s best secondary pitch is his changeup not his slider. Why would he throw the slider 10 percent more pitches? To me fastball/changeup is the best 1-2 pitch combo in baseball. If you have a great changeup and you throw 96/97 you can dominate lineups with just those two pitches.

Those are Strasburg's clips.

With Hill's injury past(and as you said, its his 2nd best pitch) the changeup would definitely be his secondary pitch.

even if it were

60 FB%
25 CH%
15 SL%

a guy like Johan Santana would throw his changeup every 4th pitch on average, playing off 92-93.
