I love old movies. I’m quite the classic aficionado, and have a huge collection, both DVD and streaming. And for years, I’ve enjoyed TCM.

But with Robert Osborne’s passing, Ben Mankiewicz has taken on a greater role at the network and his influence has caused them to bring in a number of SJW hosts. It’s ruined what was once a great network. I just listened to Mankiewicz/Alicia Malone gang up on Eddie Mueller (the last relatively benign host at TCM) in an analysis of what a horribly racist film “The Searchers” was.

I miss the good old days of TCM where you could just sit back and enjoy the movie on its own merits without being berated by the hosts about how horrible you were for doing so.

He gets his mileage out of that last name, for multiple reasons.

The Searchers is the greatest western film ever made.
Period.

This would be why I own it on Blu-ray, as well as a number of other John Wayne films on BR/DVD.

People scoff at owning physical media, but relying solely on streaming leaves your access at the mercy of people that will inevitably censor that content (either scenes, dialogue or entire films).

What specifically did they say about EM?

I've hated BM from the first time I saw him. Nothing to do w/politics -- I simply think he's a terrible host. He would never have gotten the TCM gig w/o his last name. He also wears a horrible rug.

As for his politics... What can you say about a Jew who teams up w/TYT?

They're going to take everything from you. And dare you to do anything about it.

Agree, Turner took a political turn a few years ago and it's disappointing. I miss Osborne too.

In an interview in 2009, Osborne stated his favorite films included:

A Place in the Sun (1951)
All About Eve (1950)
The Third Man (1949)
Sunset Boulevard (1950)
Singin’ in the Rain (1952)
Rebecca (1940)
Red River (1948)
Stagecoach (1939)
The Razor's Edge (1946)
This is Spinal Tap (1984)

He does know that Ethan is not a sympathetic character, right? It's why he doesn't get to go in the house with the rest of the family at the end. He's a bitter, hateful person.

Democrats destroy everything. Because they aren't good at building anything.

Instead of creating the "Gay Pedo Sex Scouts" with merit badges for the most stretchable anus, they destroy the Boy Scouts.

Like they've destroyed the Justice Department, FBI, IRS, SEC, Congress, the courts, and everything else they can get their pedo-loving, money-grubbing hands on.

I'm a HUGE fan of old movies and watch TCM a lot.
Re: Mankiewicz, I'm not sure he's any farther left than Osbourne was on a personal level. I think it's the management culture difference over the last 10 years that's moved PC.

BTW, since you mentioned The Searchers. I always knew that many western plots were based on old paperback 'dime novels' popular around 1900. What I did not know was that England started the cheap printing process 20 years before the US. They ran out of British plots so they started writing about the American Wild West during the 1880s and Brits ate up the stuff.

"There’s a lot of backstory to the Ethan Edwards character. A lot in the script that wasn’t shot...for example, that his hatred for the Comanche stemmed not from some innate racism, but from the fact that they had massacred his mother (Grandma’s tombstone that Debbie hides behind early in the picture). There are also inferences that Debbie is not really his niece, but rather his daughter...hence the affection between he and his sister-in-law upon his return from the Civil War.

But I’ve never seen your interpretation of why he didn’t go into the house. I always just assumed it was because he had finally accomplished his obsessive mission of restoring Debbie to her family/friends and just wanted to ride off into the sunset. "

Also he returned from the Civil War, no telling what horrors he saw and participated in. He most likely had PTSD. These damned liberal types are so 1 dimensional, they take History out of context and they are wrong for that.
