To quote my seventh grade teacher, “Son, we are thirty miles from Barksdale Air Force Base. If there’s ever a nuclear war, this is going to be a smoking hole in the ground,”

There was a documentary about that incident I really enjoyed. It’s a trip. Highly recommended if you haven’t seen it

Yup I’ve seen it. Crazy to think how
different Arkansas would’ve been if the war head went off.

A lot of ifs. If Baton Rouge takes a 1.5MT hit around Exxon, I’d be okay where I was in south Baton Rouge. Probably wouldn’t have any windows and there’d be social chaos, but I’d be alive....for now. If it was planted over LSU, I’d still be okay with possible house damage if it’s still around a 1.5Mt warhead. Then again Soviet missiles were not known for accuracy so with my luck it will airburst right over my house. Extended family will catch fallout from the New Orleans bomb and the ones directly west of New Orleans. It’ll depend on how good they prepared to shelter in place.

Apparently, my small podunk hometown was ground zero for a strike.

I was thinking the same thing. Why the hell would they want to nuke Catlettsburg, Kentucky? Dem hill-billies ain't never did nuthin to nobody. (Maybe the Ashland Oil refinery?)

Exactly, that is the onliest thing there.

Nothing in Ashland or Huntington target-worthy; the Russians would have done us a favor hitting either/both of them.

Soviet's clearly didn't understand the importance of the Tarpon Rodeo.

You obviously know that place well. I was born in Huntington and raised in Ashland. Thanks God Dad made me an LSU fan at a young age. I graduated high school, headed to Baton Rouge, and never looked back!

Does Ashland still think that tourism is going to save their economy after Armco shut down?

Yes there is but there’s 3 other dams on the red river. Why pick on us.
