The correct answer is Mark Ingram. Suh was unreal that year. He alone had more tackles and sacks than Gumps entire defensive line combined.

quote:

As a senior, Suh led Nebraska in tackles for the second straight season with 85 tackles, the most by a defensive lineman since 1974...He also led the team in tackles for loss (24), sacks (12), quarterback hurries (26) and blocked kicks (3)

Grossman over Crouch

McFadden over Smith

JaMarcus had a better season than Smith.

I though McClain was a far better and more impactful player for Alabama than Ingram.

TM7 in 2011 is another defender who had a game changing impact for his team.

I’ll throw in Smith this year - not because of him personally - but because they shouldn’t have awarded a Heisman this year

Troy Smith had an incredibly worthy Heisman season if he played in the 80s.

2006 and Troy Smith was the year ESPN jumped the shark for good.

They crowned him in August and didn't give anyone else any consideration the whole season which drove the result.

Crouch

Not because he didn't sniff the NFL (this is PURELY a College award after all) but he wasn't even all that special in Nebraska's system.

He had a Heisman moment against Oklahoma catching a pass for a TD...and voters latched onto that as lazy as they are. He had 7 TDs and 10 Ints passing.

And you say, oh well, they were an option team. Tommy Frazier had 17 Tds and 4 Ints in his stellar year where he didn't win the Heisman. But they gave it to Crouch because he had over 1,000 yards rushing and he wasn't a Sophomore like Grossman and Nebraska was still a media darling and ranked in the Top 2.

Rex Grossman should've won the Heisman. Crouch led Nebraska to a blowout loss to Colorado, didn't win the Big12 and then got blown out by Miami in the Rose Bowl.

People saying Jason White are crazy, he had a phenomenal year and threw for 40 Tds.

I don't view this question as "Who shouldn't have won it because someone else that year did better."

I view it as, "Who is the worst on this list."

Eric Crouch.

Better question is who should have won it ... I think all were pretty much deserving... but some shouldn’t have won it

Crouch was probably the worst Heisman winner since 2000 but it was a weaker field so I’m not sure he was the least deserving.
