I did my first 100-mile ultramarathon Saturday, Red Dirt 100, in Kisatchi National Forest. It’s a hilly race in the first place, but the heat and the mud out there were insane! 8 of 21 that started finished!

That’s insane. What was the winners time? I did a 100 miler in February also. My time was 1 month.

Good job! I was out there for the 100k. I swear there was more sand on the trail this year.

Has it ever been that muddy and hot? I was ready for the hills and the temp you can’t control, but the amount of mud they asked us to go over for that distance is insane!

This was my second time doing the course. It was way muddier this year vs last year. Way more sand on the course this year as well. You nursing any injuries?

Beyond blisters and chaffing, not really! I fell pretty hard in that creek at 5am and was surprised to see the Red Dirt Ultra group had put up a video of it on their feed!lol
How about you? Very beat up?

What are your dimensions? I figure it must be v hard to maintain alot of muscle mass while putting in the work for 100 milers.

Awesome job man, unreal achievement to complete a 100.

I passed on the 50k due to the mud and the rescheduling of La full to this coming weekend.

I’m 5’8” 195 and actually pretty jacked up, about 8-9% bf. it’s a lot of work, but the key to doing ultras is less about speed and more about resilience. I raced Half marathons much faster when I was only like 182.

Recommendations for someone trying to get to that point? Never been a runner but these last three weeks I’ve been trying to ramp up

I’d aim for a couch to half marathon, then move to a marathon, then a smaller ultra, like a 50K or 50 miler. I went straight from marathon to 100-miler, the first attempt(back in November) and fell short at mile 70.
