The scary thing is Hill can probably be even better. I don’t think his slider has looked as good as it did last year yet.

I honestly dont think hill has shown anything special yet bc of the comp he can just cruise throwing 96-98 with that filthy change. Him vs rocker and marceaux vs leiter is gonna be big time baseball

The team is batting .303 with 15 homers in 7 games. So far it’s looking good.

He’s in his 5th year in the program. He kind of is what he is at this point.

And what he is is a guy who allows a shite ton of base runners but very rarely let’s them score.

It’s weird as shite and it defies all logic but you got to give it to the guy. He’s effective.

In my personal opinion Marceaux is the better pitcher of the two.

Hill has better stuff and has a much higher ceiling but right now Marceaux is the better pitcher and I wouldn’t be opposed to throwing him on fridays for two reasons

1) I think he’s earned it

And most importantly

2) I think he gives us a better chance at taking an early lead on the series.

Beck has pitched 3 IP & has had 6 base runners

That’s not good

THAT’S Beck! I don’t see how his ERA has been so low over his career. He is always in trouble.

From Todd Politz:

Since 1986, there are 5 @LSUbaseball pitchers with 100+ IP whose career opponent batting average is under .200:

Matthew Beck .181 (2017-21)
Hunter Newman .183 (2013-17)
Lloyd Peever .184 (1992)
Devin Fontenot .198 (2018-21)
Chris Cotton .198 (2010-13)

I know! It’s just hard to believe if you’ve watched it.

Honestly, that graphic is way more impressive for Lloyd. He did that in just one year and in 1992. Dead center of the roid era.

I think his stats are exactly what you would expect all things considering. His funky delivery probably helps the movement of his pitches and throws hitters off, but it also probably makes it really hard to throw it accurately consistently. Also that fact that he’s 6’7 and it probably looks like his arm is halfway to home plate when he releases the ball doesn’t hurt.

The hits are low but then you consider he has walked 70 guys in 80 appearances, & woof

Besides your typical contrarian schtick, why do you always insist on getting caught up in the weeds of player stats or shortfalls (regardless of sport) while ignoring the overall end result?

Yes, it has been established that Beck allows runners via the walk and often gets into trouble. But the name of the game as a pitcher is to not allow runs. His career ERA is 2.59 and he has 9 wins to only 1 loss, with a BAA of .181, which is more than solid for a reliever. For comparison sake, preseason AA, Devin Fontenot has a career 4.35 ERA and a BAA of .200
