What the frick are the people at Disney thinking?

Cruella Deville is a woman that wants to SKIN PUPPIES AND MAKE PURSES OUT OF THEM!!!!

Why? Why even try to make her a sympathetic character? Is it because your ultra feminist group think can't STAND to have a woman as a villain so you need to go back and retcon her?

Are you just frick all out of ideas and re-treading every single property you own?

What's next, a live action Aristocats set in modern times with a hip hop sound track?

frick off Disney.

Critical Drinker nails it as usual.

Is there any proof that they are trying to do that?

I must be missing the part where they’re making her sympathetic

Why? Why can't people think for themselves? There's not a second of that trailer that implies Cruella will be a sympathetic character, but there is plenty suggesting she will be a villainous psycho.

The Critical Drinker can't "nail" anything when he's only seen 90 seconds of out-of-context footage, especially when he's so awful at correctly interpreting clues like performance, music cues, and editing choices. Sorry, that's not true. He continues to excel at nailing himself to the sign that says "Uninformed Dumbass". Maybe don't nail yourself there with him?

Do you really think they won't?

Have you seen Wicked or Malificent?

If not, why make the movie? Does anyone really give a shite how she came to be who we see in 101 Dalmatians? She's the villain of a movie that isn't in the top ten, maybe even top 20 Disney movies.

It would be like making an origin movie about Sheriff of Nottingham from the Disney Robin Hood movie.

Who cares?

Nah, my money on it being a lot like Malificent or even more likely, Harley Quinn.

You’re really worked up over this. Just don’t watch it.

Because some people will enjoy it. Good thing is all you have to do is decide not to watch it and it will never affect you.

I would watch this

To me the trailer looks like it will be the story of someone that at the end will essentially have a psychotic breakdown and lead to the crazy bitch we know from the cartoons.

But ive never understood why people dont want movies to be made. give me them all. Then i can choose what to watch and not watch. Its not rocket science.

The Drinker is a caricature at this point. He really is encapsulating the miserable drunk label these days. It’s just non-stop whining to the point I’m not sure if he’s doing a self-parody.

Maleficent was garbage. Her origin story would’ve been interesting had they not retconned her into Aurora’s fairy godmother.

It's one of Disney's more successful live action remakes.

I like them exploring Disney villians at this point. I do find the criticism funny when all we do is cry and complain for something more "original", they do something different, and then people like the OP melt all the way down over it.

How is rehashing an IP that has already been rehashed twice already in live action doing something different? Wouldn't doing something different mean, you know...actually doing something DIFFERENT?

It's as if Disney has no ability or desire to create anything new. Yes...it's clearly a money grab based on nostalgia, regardless of whether they are going to tweak the story a bit this time around.

Take a look at a list of Disney movies from Snow White until today and remove Pixar from the mix. Then focus on 2000 or so and see how many sequels or remakes there have been since then versus what they did prior to 2000. It's hilarious to see how they've shifted from creativity and the creation of new stories and characters to mining old IP, or simply buying the IP of others and mining that.

And yet parents willingly go out and buy Lion King 14 (straight to DVD or Disney+ these days) to perpetuate that.

Disney knows what makes them money.

work smarter, not harder

its cheap and easy to mine old IP and if it still makes money, why wouldn't you do it?

I get the frustration, but if people keep eating this stuff up, Disney isn't going to stop

I wasn't denying it wasn't a solid money making plan, just that it literally is the polar opposite of creativity or attempting something different.

Again...I was responding directly to Belle who had written this:

There is nothing "different" about what Disney is doing with this character. This will now be the 5th time this character has been featured in a Disney movie and the third time it's been live action. Taking an already established character and potentially tweaking her is not different.

To be sure, it's obviously effective and it's why literally every studio has begun doing this for the past 20 years. But at least call it what it is...lazy and a blatant money grab. I'd agreed with your point earlier when you answered why...money.
