Sir, I find your trip to Cancun very disappointing. One - that you cut the trip short based on fear of perception. Two - that you apologized to the radical left.

Never apologize to them - people of double standards are not worth apologizing to. Nancy Pelosi did not apologize for her nail salon visit during a lockdown. It will never be enough for them - they will always have you backpedaling and judge you against values they don't hold Democrats to.

We are pragmatic people, not people of optics like the left. You have no operational role on the ground. Would have been better for you to tell a reporter from the beach "I encourage any Texan who has a safe place to go where there is heat, power, and water and who is not involved in restoration on the ground to do so until this crisis is over. Meanwhile I've been in contact with authorities and have done X, Y, and Z to mobilize support and from here I'm well able to continue to push for relief while also keeping my family safe and unburdening the utility system."

That about sums it up. Every other politican goes and finds a safe place, or has access to things that majority of citizens don’t have. Only difference is they’re all ganging up on Cruz and other Republicans. Can’t bow down to them in this war. They don’t play by the rules so why should we

why do they always get to blame the republican for natural disasters? Katrina was Bush's fault, not Blanco's. Now the freeze is Abbot and Cruz' fault and not Biden's?

This is the problem with this country: political partisanship.

People can't say Cruz fricked up, Nancy fricked up, Trump fricked up, or Biden fricked up. They have to defend a member of the party like a little 8 y/o tattletale and say, "But... but... Timmy did it too!"

As long as that D or R beside someone's name is what you're really looking at, nothing will change. This country needs more independents who hold all their asses accountable.

The problem we had with Nancy getting her hair done was the hypocrisy. She had just gone on a tirade about mask wearing and how thing need to stay closed then that comes out. She blames the salon owner who she no doubt strong armed into opening for her and says she didn’t know the rules (when she literally wrote the rules). The salon’s business was then destroyed for leaking the footage.
Ted wasn’t a hypocrite about going to Mexico and should not have apologized.

My idea to send him a letter is essentially the same, but only shorter.

' Nancy didn't apologize, why did you ?

Dems never apologize. They are always on the attack. Speaker Pelosi broke at least 2 orders while flaunting her power. Ordinary citizens were not allowed to use a salon in San Francisco, and she did so with out wearing a mask. Subsequently, she attacked and blamed the salon owner, who ended up closing her shop and leaving town. Speaker Pelosi wasn't held accountable for any of it, and yet here YOU are, on your knees and asking forgiveness for having broken no orders, mandates, laws... you did nothing wrong. Senator Cruz, you did what Americans do, and that's put your family first. You're not the governor of the state, and some will claim it was ' bad optics ', but better optics is to never show any weakness. '

Something along those lines. Not as eloquent, but still, I think we're on the same page.

It’s the way our framing has changed over time.

Go back 20-30 years and the proper response would’ve been, “Man, one day I hope to be in a position to take my family on a vacation to Cancun when there’s an ice storm coming. I’m gonna work my arse off and set goals so that I can.”

Not just that, but judging him for doing so would have been seen as unbecoming.

Now, we don’t want anyone to leave the herd. We want leveling by tearing others down rather than building ourselves up.

There has been a complete reversal of the zeitgeist and this was an opportunity for Cruz to not only attempt to reframe the issue but also call out the hypocrisy of the other side.

Rush -R.I.P.- would’ve been all over this. Damn...
