Just received an invoice from our electrician (actually his boss) for $3,000.00. We hired the kid to move some outlets (2) and install our LED can lights, laundry room light (1). Was hired on a cash money deal because is a neighbor kid and told we were paying him cash.
We owe for the lights ($20 each) so now bill is down to $2,900.00.
What is the hourly rate for electricians and should i have his boss submit an itemized invoice?

You didn’t get a quote upfront?

Did they not give you a quote upfront before the work was started? That seems pretty high.

I paid a 3 man electrician crew $85/hour for labor plus material. They rewired my entire house and installed new TR receptacles and light fixtures. That is a little cheaper from the big guys but in the ballpark for normal. Mandeville FYI

How many can lights? I get $130/each including one switch if you put 4 in a room.

Sounds like you got hosed...unless he put in 15+ can lights.

I charge $145/hour for me, a helper, a truck full of tools and materials, and 25 years experience.

How many lights? I should transition into the LED can light business. My wife hired someone to put in 12 of them before we were married and she paid $900. I thought it was absurd and did all of the other rooms easily.

I had a local guy replace the 220 that my oven was hardwired into with a dryer plug instead, and that was running about 25 feet of the new wire, and my total was less than $300. It took them about an hour tops, they even removed my oven and put it back in. I just wanted them to install the plug since I knew there was a short in the wire, but he did that for the oven and installed the new plug wire on it as well.

Wife hired the boy figuring he would work on our house after he clocked out. Invoice is just a total number and he will have to break it down for insurance to pay us. Doubt he has been at house more than 8 hours total for what has been done. I think it might change when it gets itemized but that’s her problem. LEDs were placed in the original can receptacles pre Laura.

I'm confused on what all was installed. Can/lights/other.

Give us an itemized list.

6 leds, 1 led in wash room, moved two outlets. Holes were already cut and only screwed the leds in to sockets.

that seems outrageously high.

I would definitely ask for an itemized invoice. even at $100 an hour there is no way it took him over 3 days to do that.

Fark he was there after work for two days, no lights in house so it was a couple hours each day maybe 8 hours total and that’s very generous.

Wife wanted to mail check and I told her hell no, need it itemized. Prefer a contractor lien and court with trial IF we can’t figure this out. Stevie Wonder can see there ain’t $3k in what was done.
My bet is the boss has added a tax on his hands work.

Man when I was a younger man wiring houses (20ish years ago) that’s what it cost to rough in an entire spec home. About the same to trim it out too. That’s stupid high even now. I would definitely get an itemized list from that boss and see just how in the hell he can account for that price.

Itemized invoice for completed and requested electrical work in my house. I still think $100/ fan is way high as is $75/light.

I paid $140 for an electrician to run me a new receptacle and cable line to the my fireplace and mount my TV mount. Took him about 1 1/2 hours but its someone who does it on the side.

You got screwed. Say the going rate is $120 hr which is pretty high, he charged you for 24 hours. That's about 4-6 hours worth of work.
