Good, its a racist premise to begin with and its about indoctrinating children

A day earlier in the week (first couple days of feb a la BHM), my 4 y/o son is making comments about the colors in the sky right at sunset and says something to the effect of “the sky is changing” and I said no, it’s still the same old sky, the colors just change at certain times a day. At a bit of a loss to describe why the colors change at sunset I said that the colors in the sky are a bit of a mystery and aren’t really that color.

He responds by saying “dad black people are a mystery, because they are just like us but they changed color.” I immediately try to suppress my laughter thinking about what a tight spot that innocent comment would have put us in if we were in public, but his logic was pretty sound (based on what I had just told him) and fumbled over why he couldn’t say that again.

He has used the term “black people” at least 3x this week, which I have never heard him say. He has had black teachers and one of his main babysitters is black.

The point is that if we make a big deal that black people are so much different than whites, we will be forever stuck in this cycle. If we simply ignored it racial tensions would be gone in a generation. I’d rather not say what my conclusion is regarding why this indoctrination is occurring, but can’t help but believe it is because change is not the ultimate goal, and keeping things as is helps only a certain group of people.

Correct. Eventually we're all going to have live in the same society. All races need to meet each other in the middle and we can't continue with this one-sided public debate that allows one side to say anything they want and any rebuttal is silenced and scolded (looking at the 1619 Project).

Not so fast friend - the school has rescinded this option:

Hirokawa sent another email to parents Saturday afternoon apologizing for the option to opt out and has rescinded that offer. The email states that "at this time no families are opting out of our planned activities and we have removed this option."

Good. The majority shouldn’t be forced to do something that has nothing to do with them. I’m white and proud.

Are you saying parents can't have a say in what is taught to their kids?

No, captain strawman, I’m saying there is no civil right associated with it. Not to mention this is a charter school where enrollment is optional.

Just because something is objectionable doesn’t mean there is a right associated with it.

I agree. Now, tell that to the black people who perpetually see the world only through the lens of race.

It’s insane that we let decisions be swayed by strangers on Twitter but here we are

You're starting from the premise that some set of rights is handed out by society and by default we have none. That's crap. I have the right to do whatever I want unless and until someone makes a law against it, and presents enough deadly force to make that law stick.

Yes, we do have a right to control the education of our children. There's actually very little in the law that qualifies or reduces that right.

A Utah charter school that incorporates Black History Month into its lesson plans is now facing backlash from some after the school announced it was allowing parents to opt students out of the curriculum.
you should be able to opt out of curriculum you don’t agree with

You should also be able to get Fs for doing so

This.
No one should be forced fed biased information.
I don’t believe in a history curriculum solely based on race.
