I know this topic has been discussed previously...but is 40 acres enough(if surrounded by other timberland) to hunt? what is ideal for just a 2-3 people to hunt?

Only 2 deer i have mounted were killed on 10 acres behind my house. I wouldn hunt over 2 people on 40 acres though

If managed properly it can be a nice sanctuary for wildlife. Or when you're not there, Bubba and Billy Bob will be poaching anything brown. My suggestion, do extensive research and know who the neighbors are before buying.

40 acres is big enough imo if designed correctly to have 2 plots w/ smart hunters. maybe have 2 stands on each plot for different winds. try to keep pressure down.

We have a 50ac tract that is surrounded by timber land. After multiple prescribed burns, not hunting the land too much, and the hunting lease being cancelled on the neighboring land we are finally seeing some decent deer. On a small plot of land, we’ve noticed it’s as much about those hunting around you as much as anything. Our land is in an area known for smaller deer, and if it’s brown it’s down. Game cameras are showing some good shooter bucks starting to show up for the first time since we’ve owned the land.
We can hunt 2-3 people if we setup in the right spots, and watch your shooting direction.

It can be enough if it’s in good deer country. I hunt a 25 acre bow spot in the suburbs. There were 15 different deer on camera in the early season.
Put it this way.....is a one acre pond enough to fish on? The short answer is yes. But do you want to do all of your fishing on a one acre pond? That’s boring to me.
I always enjoyed hunting on big clubs. Most of the other members helped pay for me to have a bunch of woods to hunt.

Nice thing about owning your own tract is the freedom to make it what you want. You can clear when and where you want, plant whatever you want, and don’t have to worry about getting approval to do so.
