House Democrats ask Trump to testify Under Oath *UPDATE Trump rejects & won't testify

House Democrats on Thursday asked Donald Trump to testify under oath for his Senate impeachment trial, challenging the former president to explain why he and his lawyers have disputed key factual allegations at the center of the case.
The request from House impeachment managers does not require Trump to appear — though the Senate could later subpoena him — but it does warn that any refusal to testify could be used at trial to support arguments for a conviction. Even if Trump never testifies, the request nonetheless makes clear Democrats' determination to present an aggressive case against him even though he has left the White House, and it challenges him to personally explain the words of his attorneys.

I would tell them get fricked on this unconstitutional circus.

That's a good answer. He should fight any attempts to subpoena him as well.

Since common sense is obviously not being allowed I'm sure things like the 5th aren't allowed in the chamber either.

What idiot wrote this drivel up? No, you can't say that when someone refuses to testify that means they're guilty. Idiots.

Raskin said that if Mr. Trump declines to testify, the House impeachment managers "reserve any and all rights, including the right to establish at trial that your refusal to testify supports a strong adverse inference regarding your actions (and your inaction) on January 6, 2021."
Mr. Trump's lawyers, Bruce Castor and David Schoen, called Raskin's request a "public relations stunt" in a response later in the day.
"As you certainly know, there is no such thing as a negative inference in this unconstitutional proceeding," they wrote in response to Raskin. "Your letter only confirms what is known to everyone: you cannot prove your allegations against the 45th president of the United States, who is now a private citizen. The use of our Constitution to bring a purported impeachment proceeding is much too serious to try to play these games."
The Senate is set to convene as a court of impeachment February 9 to hear the case against Mr. Trump. The House approved a single of article of impeachment charging him with incitement of insurrection last month.

Should have been his response in the first place. Stop playing their game and break them or retire. His waffling is creating a lot of confusion when we need to band together.

Refusal to testify makes his suit against them stronger. By participating, he is validating.

I think I'd tell them I'll be there then show up and sit down on the steps outside eating a couple McDonald's Big Macs

Yeah Trump would be a complete moron to testify. Tell them to shove it and just ignore them. That will drive them even more crazy
