PSA:

NOLA Bourbon Fest is this Fri and Sat night.

$100 for a VIP tasting pass. Well worth it. I will have to give some thought into the smokes I will bring to pare with the whiskies.

Edit: NOLA Bourbon Fest

Any pipe smokers around anymore? I’ve converted from Cigars in the last year or so. Still enjoy a cigar, but the ritual and flavor of a good pipe is just better for my taste. Wish we had a proper tobacco shop that tried to cater to pipe smokers a bit more.

Good afternoon gents! Been about 4 weeks since I’ve had a cigar mostly due to crazy allergy issues, but I’m back in the game. Got to spend the day with some childhood friends, one of which whose father had passed away. Had an amazing time revising and saying goodbye. Cheers fellas! Hanging with my smoking buddy and enjoying a Cuban H. Upmann.

Yes sir. Wife is allergic to MSG which is in all the boil mixes. I started doing this about 10 years ago when we discovered it. Now I enjoy doing my own mix. I've been working it over the years.

Absolutely. I do the following.

9oz each paprika and garlic powder. 3oz each celery seed, basil and lemon pepper. 2oz ground mustard. 5lbs salt.

I send this through the blender to get fine, or else the basil is all over the crawfish when you’re peeling. Learned my lesson from that.

In a blender purée 3 large onions, 3 large carrots, and entire head of celery and 8oz of fresh ginger. I mix this with 1c liquid boil, 2c each oil and apple vinigar.

Throw all of this into pot with water and 6 of the zatarans individual bag seasonings along with lemons and oranges and boil it all together for a few minutes. From there cook your veggies and crawfish however you normally like.

The basil and ginger may sound weird, but it gives an amazing flavor to it. It’s not anything that stands out from the crawfish, but it makes people ask what’s different about them. They still have that traditional flavor, but it has an added dimension to it all. Im always messing with this, and the ginger was a last year experiment that went over well.

Appreciate the info. I've used ground italian seasoning and always blend a portion of my veggies, and add a jar of blended jalapeños, but never ginger. Sounds interesting.

Yes. I like to swap it up sometimes. A good pipe is an excellent option when you’re opting for a good pleasant smoke, like maybe Sunday afternoons. I’ve been meaning to branch out into some more exotic blends, there’s a ton out there.

Nothing pairs with a good cigar better than that.

You should get your hands on some Venezuelan Solora rum. Probably will rethink that, if you do.
