If everybody called me “pistol,” I imagine I would be tempted to walk around with a holster and 6-shooter.

His freshman points also don't count towards his total as well also had no shot clock. Would be wild to see what he could have gotten to with a 3 point line and his freshman points counting in a faster paced game. Could have maybe gotten to an absurd 5000 points.

Absolutely mindblowing, considering his record as is will probably never be broken.

Pete Maravich was carried off the court by opposing fans at one point in his career.. If that doesn't cement him as GOAT status, I dont know what could.

remember seeing him dribble with 5 GA. players chasing him only to watch him throw up a hook shot from half court at the buzzer and make it.

I remember when that happened. The game was at Georgia and the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
One of a kind legend.

went to games back then too and Pete was the only reason to watch LSU during that time. The teams he played on really weren’t that good. It was pretty much just watch Pete do his thing.

LSU's record in 70-71 the year after Pete finished at LSU was 14-12 and 10-8 in conference play and finished 3rd in the conference that year....that record was better than the record of 2 of the 3 teams that Pete played varsity ball for in his career here.

I didn’t get to see him play but watched a lot of videos and documentaries of him. You got to watch his signature end of game half court hook shots?

I believe his senior team finished second in the SEC behind Ky.
But back then things were way different than they are now. Only the SEC champ went to March Madness, there was no SECT, and the SEC was not a good bball league.

We did get invited to the NIT which was a pretty big deal at the time and Pete got drunked up and we were embarrassed.
