Out in the armpit of America this week for work in Southwest Kansas. Catching an early morning flight out of Amarillo on Friday morning so will be there for the night Thursday. Anywhere I can get a decent meal and a beer?

Fire Slice pizza is good pizza and beer selection. Looks like they have some Nola on tap right now.

Drunken Oyster is fabulous. Bring your Platinum card, but they put in the work. Raw oysters in the Texas panhandle? Who’d a thunk? They are the BEST!
Atmosphere, music all good.

Go to that place where if you eat the entire steak, it’s free (72 oz steak I think)
Edit:
The Big Texan
72oz steak

Amarillo has one of the best olive gardens in the country...

I have no desire to eat a 72 ounce steak but is a normal size steak actually good there?

Glad you asked this. I’ll be there by morning. Up from San Antone

The Big Texan is a great experience. You gotta go once to say you’ve been.
The challenge is I believe: steak, potato, roll, fried shrimp. It’s not just a steak.
They have an entree that’s the same thing, but “real” portion sizes. I think it’s like 1/4 of the size. It’s a sirloin. I’m not big on sirloin, but it was fun to get.

Make sure you go to the Cadillac Ranch

The Big Texan also has a brewery attached... that's the only beer I've ever had from Amarillo... standard styles but quality brews.

Dyers has some good North Texas BBQ.

Coyote Bluff Cafe is great for a true hole in the wall burger joint.

Tyler's BBQ is good stuff. Featured in Texas Monthly Mag as one of the Best BBQ in state.
Crush downtown is upscale and most non Texan place in town.
Six Car Pub/Brewery isn't bad. Texans tend to like mild lighter beers and that's what you get.
Long Wooden Spoon brewery is in a warehouse, beer is average at best
Pondaseta has a nicer place but again nothing to write home about beer wise.
Go see the Big Texan because it's like Carney land, but don't bother to eat there.

Public House off Coulter is kind of high but good. There is also a cheaper bar across the parking lot for after if you want.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I did not know this going in but my hotel was practically next door to the Big Texan. Out of convenience I just walked over there. I honestly expected it to be more tourist-type junk but my ribeye was really good. Ordered medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. I also really enjoyed the hefeweizen beer that they make on site.

I spent alot of time working at a refinery about an hour north of there. Big Texan is pretty good. Its hit and miss but a pretty decent meal. Coyote Bluff is a great burger joint, but be prepared to stand in line get there early.
