Hey TD

Driving in from Dallas and bringing 17yo son to visit campus this weekend. What and where to go on campus? Places to eat? Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated.

Set up a tour with LSU

Walk the campus and explore

For an 18 year old, who can't drink beer legally, the Chimes is not exactly a "Must". Looking at 100 beers on a menu and thinking, "Only three more years!"

The best part about going into Chimes for me, is remembering all the good times I had in there over the years. Remembering when the door was on the corner, Around the World, $0.25 cent oysters, and many random events with friends.

The Chimes is dated and mostly underwhelming when I go there now. It shines on Game Day, and mostly through nostalgia. I haven't eaten there in about four weeks though, so maybe things are turning around.

I think there are better options for a teenager these days.

this first, but

this is just as easy.

Check out
-Library/Quad area.
-Bookstore/Union area/parade grounds
-LSU Rec Center
-go around the lakes and check out sorority/frat houses
-obvious sports venues and Mike the Tiger Habitat
-go down to Vet School and then walk the levee along the Miss. River if its a pretty day.

That should cover most of campus.

Good eats on/near campus:
-Louie's Cafe - breakfast
-Ingas - subs
-Chimes - good everything cajun style restaurant
-Canes - chicken fingers chain and the one on campus by ---Chimes was the first one.
-Fat Cow or Our Mom's - both great burger joints
-Lit Pizza - pizza...lol
-Walk On's - everything type restaurant started by former LSU basketball players and I'm sure your 17 year old will enjoy the waitresses.

If you think the kid is thinking 3 more years til I get to drink a beer you’re out of touch. He probably had a couple last weekend.

Step 1 - Do NOT ever, ever hop on TD.com and take a look around
lol
Step 2 - Do NOT ever, ever set up a profile on TD.com lol

Step 3 - If there is any confusion, please refer back to steps #1 and #2. LOL

Dated in this case means there is tradition there. Also, the Chimes has a whole new second floor. I think it as good as any place to eat that would show LSU tradition.

The biggest thing to do is just walk the campus. Maybe, show them the area they may be living in if they were to become a student at LSU.

Don't tell me that...it has been about 10 years since I've been there, but the Chimes is (or was) about the only interesting restaurant/bar in and around LSU.

I send ever friend touring LSU with their child to Chimes and it’s always a hit with both. The parents love the food and the atmosphere of the college bar remembering their own college experiences. Their kids also love the food and checking out the local talent and beer selection.

Most schools aren’t offering tours right now. Maybe LSU is but not the schools I visited.

oh for the days of the Caterie Countdown and nickel beer at the Long Branch, hitting up Phil's Oyster Bar(4950 Gubment St.,) for a couple of dozen before hitting the Highland Road bars, starting at the Bengal....
