Is it just me or did 2020 remind you a lot of 2018?

I’m not saying that 2020 was the exact same or a better team but there are a lot of similarities. This is how I view it.
2018 we showed offensive potential especially at the end of year. Had a switch turn on during Texas AM 74-72 game I would say. Later in the UCF game we see the emergence of a stud Freshmen in Jamarr Chase. To keep this momentum we hire a young offense mind to help Steve out to take the next step. And 2019 is born.
2020 We catch our stride later in the season. Team started playing harder and together. Switch turned on when we beat Florida at the swamp. We then see the emergence of a Stud Freshmen in Kayshon Boutte. To help keep the momentum we keep Steve around but hire 2 young offense of minds this time. And onto 2021 to be continued...
Just my feeling.
I got this thought from Mangas interview when he mentioned that 2018 and 2020 are similar in production. Around the 1:23 mark

2020 reminded me of 2017.

not even close. The defense this past season felt like 1992

Ehh, not really.
The 2018 team was good for most of the year. The only game where they absolutely didn't show up was against Bama. The Florida loss was close for basically the entire game.
This year there were several games with poor performances. I agree that there are some reasons for optimism now, but I don't expect us to follow this season with a 2019 type season.
I expect next season should end like 2018. 10 wins and a NY6 game.

Offensively maybe. Defensively not at all close. 2018 was a much better year and it’s not even close

the 2018 offense was loaded with talent, on both the staff and on the field that was waiting to break out. Just lacked SEC experience and experience in general and was easy to see that 2019 was going to be a big year. 2020 didn't look the same at all to me. In 2018 you could see the huge talent that Joe Burrow had and the talent of the WR's but inexperience and youth their. Burrow and the WR's just needed to get on the same page and the WR's had to overcome timing, route running, and most of all, dropsie issues. Same with the RB's. That the oline had talent but just needed time to gel and that it was going to all come together in 2019. Same with the defense. It was easy to see. Not the same in 2020 at all.

Our offense scored 24 points and went 3-0 when they could ice the game.
The “switch” was being put on the 25 yard line 7 times.

Oline will be much better in 2021, as will the WR's and RB's but not the talent at WR as we had in 2019. Plus the staff will be in a learning mode as well. 2022 would be the year except that we lose the entire Oline.

1992 w/o Crazy Curley, chaos!!

'm really not sure why so many people insist that the offense at the end of that year was even in the same stratosphere as it was in 2019.
throw out the stats and just watch the games. It was easy to see how the offense was starting to click how the offense was opening up big time, just being held back by oline issues and bad case of the dropsies by the WR's.

Because Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, and Ja'Marr Chase managed to score 40 points against Central Florida?
no but that game did make it clear as to the plans the staff had for the offense in 2019 once Burrow got up to speed and Oline and WR issues could be overcome.

In 2018, we finished #6 in the country winning a NY6 bowl. 2020 did not resemble 2018 in any significant way. 2020 was a complete disaster.

2020 reminded me of 2017 much more than 2018. In 2017, it felt like there was very similar dysfunction as there was in 2020, especially with the horrific Troy loss. 2018, on the other hand, seemed like a team who was functional and talented and had yet to grow into their potential. That's not even mentioning the fact that the 2018 team won a NY6 bowl

Thenoffense looked like shite VS Bama
Looked like shite vs Arkansas
Looked like shite against A&M u til Joe but the team in his fricking back in overtime
But yeah they looked great vs Rice and UCF.
Just like we looked great against Ole Miss in week 5.

2020 felt like 2008.
Coming off a championship.
Change in DC.
No defense.
A lot of reliance on young QBs.
Beginning of a QB controversy.

2008
Defense was always out of place and allowing huge plays.
Offense was statistically ok but inconsistent.

Offense looked pretty solid when we stomped Georgia who was #2 at the time

Definitely - Particularly the offensive line.
