Ever heard of the Mississippi River?
It's got nothing on the Brazos.

Well, you might want some more natural, defensible boundaries... the MS river does make a nice one to the east...
Kind of a buffer area so to speak...

I would limit the franchise to those of us who are able to prove direct descent from at least one person who lived in Texas prior to 1845. The real stakeholders.
The only ones who get to vote should be real property owner males. Women frucke things up royally and should not be allowed the vote. In fact, there is an excellent case to be made that women are the reason the USA has become the fascist clown show we are currently being forced to survive.

Can Texas just establish independence and then like....invade and conquer Louisiana so we can just become one big Texas?
Texas if you're reading this, I promise like 90% of us will be compliant with the take over....as long as you don't start makin crazy laws like "All Gumbo must have tomatoes in it"
Signed, Louisiana

If it's voted on in November, why doesn't it happen this year?
I'm assuming that, like the US Presidential election, a built-in time frame of sorts would be needed.
The bill provides for the establishment of a committee to begin working on a transitional plan which would address ALL of the issues related to decoupling from the federal government. We would begin the process of operating as an independent, self-governing nation.
Contrary to the doomsday predictions of those who oppose TEXIT, in the immediate aftermath of an affirmative Texas independence vote, things will continue as they have until they don’t. The mail will be delivered. The trash will be picked up. Goods will flow. Money will be earned and spent. Literally, nothing changes until it does.
While this may be a surprise to some, such surprise stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of the independence process. The referendum is the first step in the process, an expression of political will that kicks off the process of becoming independent. It is, however, an important step. Such an expression of political will must be respected. It demands action. However, that action must be balanced with care and caution as Texas enters the next phase?negotiation and transition.
There will be one single aim for relations with the United States in the immediate aftermath of TEXIT?minimizing disruption. While those opposed to TEXIT would love to think that disruption cannot be avoided or even mitigated as Texas leaves the Union, they are dead wrong. In fact, the tools necessary to effect a speedy, efficient, and minimally disruptive TEXIT are already at our disposal.

Pretty simple - agriculture, textiles, lumber, cotton and rice (in Arkansas' case), additional large ports and access to the Mississippi, and additional O&G production and refineries (in LA's and AR's case), large industries and business.
The nation of Texas by itself would have to import FAR less by simply adding the two, and would also gain a major means of exporting to the US by gaining the mouth of the Mississippi and Arkansas Rivers as well as land along them.
So you can take your typical Texan undeserved-elitism and shove it, Hank. Your own people don't even like you

but louisiana is the gateway to the Mississippi river, and we can offer ourselves as a buffer between Texas and mississippi/alabama/florida

Slow your roll, mate.
Many women are proud patriots who work as hard as--if not harder than--many men to live and maintain freedom loving and respecting lives.
Your comment is so silly it doesn't deserve a response.
But sometimes I just can't help my poor little histrionic self.
I'm sure it's those pesky female hormones and whatnot.
