Inside the Vikings

This is a big loss for the Vikings. Whether it was Zimmer or the players he worked with, everyone spoke highly of Jones and his contributions to the 2020 team in a unique year. During his first and only year in Minnesota, Jones had to not only deal with a global pandemic, but also a ton of youth and rotation at the cornerback position. At the start of the season, the CB room was headlined by three rookies (Jeff Gladney, Cameron Dantzler, and Harrison Hand) and a few other young players (Mike Hughes, Kris Boyd, and Holton Hill). Without any OTAs or a normal training camp due to the pandemic, Jones had to learn how to teach and coach those players virtually.
Then the season started, and due to injuries, the Vikings went the entire first half of the year without ever starting the same trio of cornerbacks twice. Despite all of that turnover, and with the help of veteran safeties Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris, Jones was able to make a lot of progress with the CB group. Dantzler, in particular, played extremely well for most of the second half of the season. Gladney, Boyd, and Hand all showed improvement. Even Chris Jones, who was signed off of the street during the season, filled in capably.
Zimmer called Jones a "terrific coach" in his season-ending press conference.

But people here say he sucks. Who to believe ,an NFL coach or guys that have never coached?

This doesn't fit the narrative. Please delete.

He didn’t really light the world on fire with Cincy either. All I am reading are excuses for poor results.

Who has?

If someone had poached CR, and he was hired to be DB coach, then it would make sense. To bring him in as DC with his only experience as a DC at Bowie Freaking State and a couple of years in High School, well, 0 sold us a bill of goods. Again. Seems like pandering to Ryan Clark is more important than results.

I think people are looking at his resumè and basing their opinion on that.
I’ll take that over some coach who’s going to speak highly of him to the media regardless.

I’m just providing info. I didn’t hire him.

People say he is going to be great and others say he is going to suck.
At the end of the day, he was far from our top choice. He has little experience running a defensive scheme at an SEC level. He was a position coach that wasn’t very impressive in that role, so DC is a big jump at any program for him.
Regardless, it all comes down to a lack of faith in Ed. He had a top DC on staff and ran him off. He wants to run a very ridged formation scheme because that is all Ed knows.
Jones could be great, but this hire screams of Ed getting a guy that he a guy he can influence and Jones being good with it to get a chance at landing the LSU DC position. I don’t blame Jones for this hire. I won’t blame him if he fails and will give him all the credit if he succeeds. It is hard to believe that he won’t be in over his head at LSU though.

You saying this bullshite over and over might make it true in your addled mind, but those of us living in the real world know that it isn’t. I’m not saying that O and Aranda got along great in 2019, but he left for a fricking P5 head coaching position.

I'm sure he's a great DB coach. Why are we letting this guy take over control of our defense?

Can we find one article put out by a team where they were like “this guy sucks”

Bullshite. Aranda is/was a top defensive mind in the nation. Period. Ed wanted to switch to a primary 4-3. Aranda was a base 3-4 guy, but was able to show multiple looks. Ed was insecure as frick with Aranda and bashed him at every opportunity during a championship run. He even laughably claimed Bo’s defense, in the preseason, was better than anything fielded the year before.
Ed handled Aranda like a fricking middle school girl taking a grudge to social media and it severely bit him and the program in the arse. So you can stick it with your moronic tripe (sound like some stupid soy boy term anyway) nonsense.
