Speaking as a teacher, these people make me sick.

Thousands of Chicago’s educators are refusing to head back into schools Monday as originally planned, following a weekend vote from its teachers union to defy a district order asking them to return to the classroom in preparation for resuming in-person learning.
quote:
Chicago Public Schools, which is the nation's third-largest district, wanted roughly 10,000 kindergarten through eighth-grade teachers and other staffers to return to school this morning to get ready to welcome back roughly 70,000 students for part-time in-school classes starting Feb. 1. But now, following the vote, the district has pushed back the expected return date for their staff to Wednesday in hopes of securing an agreement with the Chicago Teachers Union over their concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.

Students in over 130 private and parochial schools and over 2,000 early learning centers across the city have been safely learning in their classrooms since the fall, and we must provide that same option to our families who, through no fault of their own, have been unable to make remote learning work for their children," it added. "We’ve seen grades, attendance, and enrollment drop significantly for many of our students in recent months, and the impact has been felt most by our Black and Latinx students."

Why are people in unions, specifically teachers, the biggest pussies in the world.

Welcome to Biden's vision of America.

In-person instruction literally puts lives in danger! The teachers are doing what is best to keep the COMMUNITY safe! Double mask, get your vaccine every few months, social distance, AND BE SAFE!

I'd say fire them all... but... that would realistically be impossible to replace. I wonder how many would still refuse, though, if firing was on the table.

Government Employee Unions should be against the law.

Call their bluff. Send out notices that they will be terminated and their pensions will be forfeited. They will be back in no time.

I'd have three words for them.
The first is You
The second is Are
The third is Fired.

sounds like here in NC, they refuse to go back. We hear there is a upcoming lawsuit against the schoolboards because they have no real answer on why they are not opening up.

What the frick is wrong with these stupid mother frickers? Do they actually think they will catch COVID from a kid and get sick and die? I guess every other worker in every other industry should refuse to go to work as well. frick those teachers. They just want to sleep in and relax at home and do some bullshite virtual teaching while still collecting a full paycheck and benefits.

So damn glad I live in Texas where teachers are the complete opposite of these morons. I’m sure they’d fit in well over in r/teachers. These people think COVID19 is around every corner and it’s a 100% death rate
We’ve already been told virtual won’t be an option next year which should help alleviate my wife’s stress. That at home kids are definitely further behind and there’s not much she can do to help. The in person kids of hers are all doing fantastic.

Remember this when these same people scream “privilege” about private school graduates in a few years.

Gives the rest of us a bad rep. Do your job , quit or get fired... only way to handle it . Elementary and middle school need as much in person learning as possible . Our HS students who opted for virtual are doing quite well considering though . At that age it is more or less just not being lazy and time management with every one of our students having a MacBook

Those teachers union crybabies are always sky screaming and pulling stunts like this to try and convince everyone that their jobs are "so hard" and they're so underpaid.
Fire them all. frick em.

Since August the entire local district with at least a little over 54% doing face to face has had about 4% of the total student population test positive including those on campus within 2 days of symptoms or positive test and positives who were off campus at least 2 days before symptoms if not always in virtual. Yet some parents and teachers are freaking about our high school having double digit positives on campus last week.
There is also no proof that spread is mostly occurring at the actual school if at all. Other nearby high schools went up which have some crossover in neighborhoods due to being newer or redrawn boundaries. What High schoolers do after school is where spread is mostly occurring. Also college students had just left to go back weekend before, so any that spent time partying with friends and then spent time after this with family might also have pushed some numbers.
It seems controlled by district by pretty standard procedures in place and just a reflection of area, but there are always the sky is falling types out there. We didn’t use to pay so much attention to them like we have past several years.
Surely these Chicago teachers and students can follow simple guidelines and focus on students wellbeing and improving their education by being in class.
