Brees scenario

What are you guys feeling with Brees? All signs obviously pointing to retirement except it hasn’t came from his mouth. With Rivers retiring last week, am I the only one finding it strange brees hasn’t made an announcement yet? Because it feels like he’s kindve stringing the saints along...I guess my question is, what’s the hold up?

My fear is what his wife posted: he played through all of these injuries, and that he'll be thinking "if I had been healthy, thing would have been different" which is true, but at his age he isn't recovering fast from any of that. I love what he did for us, but I pray that he doesn't continue to hold this franchise hostage. This should have happened a few years ago.

Yes.

It’s been 7 days. How often does an all-time great announce a retirement less than a week after a playoff loss?

I bet the Saints already know his decision, and they are either trying to figure out the timing for the cap (either restructure or retirement), or they are waiting for the right time because they need to stretch it out to help the team.

I wonder what the saints front office says to Brees telling them, hey look I was injured all year, I can fully rehab and come back stronger. Do we welcome him back to a team friendly deal? Hard to say no

Eh. It’s time for Drew to hang it up. Being in denial will just end up bad for the team, Brees, and the fans.

Does Philip Rivers count?

That’s what I’m saying! Is the hold up strictly for dramatic effect at this point? It just seems to me the longer it goes unsaid, the more he’s thinking about it.

No. Not that great and there’s no emotional attachment between him and the Colts. I’d expect there to be more pageantry for a Brees retirement given what he means to New Orleans and this organization

The torn rotator cuff would need to be surgically repaired. There is no way Brees would be ready for the start of next season with that surgery. None of the QB’s in the NFL would be ready for the start of the season after that surgery this late.

The saints have salary cap problems. The word is they have to
wait until 6/1 21 to max salary cap savings.

Brees recovers in time for next year's playoffs.
The Patriots sign Brees to defeat Brady and the Bucs in next year's Superbowl.
Once upon a time and the end.

Was he injured last week?
Is he recovered enough to make a informed choice?
Ask yourself these questions first

He’s waiting for Super Bowl week to announce so he can dominate the news, IMO

I think he's done, and I don't think we will see an announcement until after the Super Bowl.
We don't really gain or lose anything right now.
He stood on the field that long after the game, after a loss. He knows he is done.

he can't STAY healthy is the issue. Even when he is healthy, we can't push the ball down the field. Not having the ability to take the top off the defense or draw a deep PI call is killing our offense in the post season
that said, he's done. Those post game moments with he and the family were all i needed to see. after last years offseason and what not, he's ready to go i think
