Divinity 2 might already be one of the best RPGs I've played

Just tripped my way into this monster. Guess the next 2 years of my gaming time are accounted for now. Holy shite this depth is absolutely insane. For those of you that haven't played, I 'll elaborate.
These people actually re-recorded lines of the exact same dialogue with the only difference being the tonal delivery based on that character's attitude toward you on "common" lines that are spoken before branching off based on your choices. Whether it be racially motivated on sight or something you did/didn't do.
An NPC elf talked to my human character in a mildly agitated tone and eventually closed herself off in later dialogue. I tried again with the elf in my party and she opened the dialogue with the exact same line, but delivered with a warm cheeriness my human definitely did not receive, on top of being more open to conversation.
There are a million examples of the depth of this game, this is just my favorite one so far. I was absolutely floored by that. I've known RPGs to have different interactions entirely based on moods/deeds whatever (character greetings in DA:O changed based on your standing with them), but the pure tonal adjustment is a first. That's incredible dedication.

I'm finishing up the first zone on D:OS. Looking forward to D:OS2.

Great game.
This and Pathfinder:Kingmaker are the best 2 CRPGs since Baldur's Gate 2.
Great acting and score in both games.

I'm at the last boss and couldn't beat it.
I don't know how I fricked up my builds so bad, but at this point, the game is unwinnable for me.
My entire squad is wiped before I've had 1 full turn.
I just watched the ending on YouTube and uninstalled

I am all for getting used to various RPG's and their controls. If you need to lift a barrel to put it on the switch; you have to jump through so many hoops of command to do it. I don't think you can. I lost interest in finding out.
Seeing the rooms from the ceiling or just in front of you gives me vertigo. I hope someone enjoys this mess I don't.

Sorry for your inability to press 2 fricking buttons. Life must be a burden for you.

I'm probably... 50% through the 2nd area? Great game, it does get monotonous sometimes though.

its a fantastic game. writing is top notch.
my only issues are some of the fights take WAAAY too long. mitigated somewhat by being able to save mid-fight, and you best believe i save spamming some of the larger encounters.
and the difficulty. holy shite some of this game was just impossible. i just didnt have the fricks to get into the nitty-gritty numbers game to have a 100% understanding of party stats. and the difficulty gap between settings was too large. game was too easy once i bumped the difficulty down.
prob the fastest ive ever put in 70+ hours tho. couldnt put it down.

This game is such a massive breath of fresh air to me. I'm so tired of every release being mind-numbingly easy on "normal" difficulty, and so far it seems like you can solve a situation in almost any way your brain can come up with. If being able to frick your save over is the price to pay for that kind of freedom, I'm all for it.
Although judging from the amount of resurrection scrolls I've had to use just in Fort Joy alone, I might want to tap the brakes a bit.

quote:It's certainly overwhelming at first. I didn't start consistently winning fights until day 2 of playing. My whole first day in Fort Joy was spent wandering around getting my arse handed to me, but that's also what made day 2 so rewarding. Getting the gear and levels that allow yourself to be more bold within the fort feels so damn good. I went completely drunk with power. Raided the front gates of the fort and took out every magister I saw.

I've really enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of party-based and turn-based RPGs.
I can appreciate Lyrian provides the rules, and it's up to the player as to how they challenge and push those rules.

It's the current pinnacle of turn based party RPGs in my book. I've put a hundred or so hours into it across a few playthroughs, like someone mentioned in this thread already my first time I got crushed in the endgame. Subsequent playthroughs I payed closer attention to builds and stats and excelled.

It's definitely a game that punishes balanced parties, far better off going either with 3 physical damage dealers and one caster with necro damage dealing, or all casters. And also min/maxing gear by stealing or buying as you level.
But it's definitely up there at the top for party based games, for sure. Put so many hours and specs into that game.

quote:Interesting. As it stands, I'm running 3 physical and caster/healer. I can definitely see the logic behind not contending with both types of damage reduction.

Love DOS2. Had a ton of fun experimenting with various builds. My top damage at end game was Fane as a Blood Mage in Elf Form with Apotheosis > Flesh Sacrifice > Adrenaline > Blood Storm > Grasp of the Starved > Time Warp > Skin Graft > Repeat on 2nd turn > Everything should be dead.
If you have a healer/caster, try using a shield and wand instead of a staff or dual wands. Crowd control is key as well and cycling through knock downs and polymorph abilities is really helpful on all difficulties.

I got about 3 quarters of the way through the first one, need to go back eventually. Great, challenging game but the story was kinda confusing
