Curious how many on the OT used to go or send their kids to this camp.

We went 4 years in a row when we were in middle school. Looked forward to it all year long. It was an awesome week away from the parents, staying at a small college (SMCC), eating some decent food, and playing ball for 8 hours a day.

Hated the carpet floored gyms they made us play in for a couple years, those brush burns were hell.

Yup. Good times.

Seemed like they also had to over inflate the ball to account for the carpet as well, so you’d get some wild bounces from time to time along with the brush burns.

ETA: attending Dixie basketball camp probably cancels out any chance of a political career for either of us

“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.”

I had a few friends go to the Dale Brown camp. I was definitely jealous.

Was talking to a buddy of mine who is a few years older about it. He went when he was in middle school and so did I. Some good memories. Played some ping pong there too.

Does Joe Dean Jr still call college basketball games?

ETA: Apparently they have renamed it to String Music Basketball Camp.

Found a video of this speech. Brought back some cool memories.

I always viewed the camp as a summer camp with basketball included. I don't imagine most campers were making AAU teams in HS. There were some players but most of us were not.

I had a Tracy mcgrady level performance on the last day when the parents watched. I scored probably 10 points in about 90 seconds
