If Pitching stays healthy that is about as nasty a weekend rotation that Paul has had. I am a little concerned about the offense. Crews is going to hit a ton but get a lot of SO. They should be fine but always worry about CPM not focused on offense enough.

PM tempered his enthusiasm about the team after the P&G World Series.

Project pointed out that the interview happened before the P&G world series. I know that Mainieri said after the series that were some players he didn't feel as confident about. As he said, " the series was revealing".

I think Dugas in LF and Beloso is a valid point. Of course I made the argument last year that Dugas was better defensively than Beloso at 1b, so why do you have the better defender as DH? The point is even more valid in the outfield. Is it because Mainieri feels Beloso needs to show he can play LF to have a better shot at a pro career? Is that putting a players best interest above what is best for the team?

On Safford, I think it is still an open competition. C. Doughty seems like a lock for 2B. It will be Safford, Thompson, Cranford and Arnold fighting for two spots, SS and 3B. I think that competition might be going on for a while. I think they are all capable defensively, so it might come down to is swinging the bat the best.

The outfield could get real interesting as well. You have to find a spot for Beloso to hit but what if Hampton or Drost turn it on?

PM said in the fall that with Morgan's emergence at first base that Beloso was being moved to left field. I guess it's possible that Beloso could serve as the DH in case the defensive experiment doesn't go well.

I understand about Morgan taking first base. I just find it impossible to believe that Beloso would play left field over any candidate for DH. Almost any of the others would have to be a better outfielder than him. I don't know what Mainieri is thinking. I hope that was just a brain fart when he was asked the question.

Tend to agree, he dodged a bullet by covid last season IMO

Id prefer we have a run of at least a couple Omaha appearances in his last 5 years (which is i think where we are)

Of course i hope we are in omaha too, but its a tougher ask this year with all the talent returning to college baseball. More parity than ever, and there was already a bunch

I’m one of those that constantly get accused of being a “Manieri defender” or whatever cute nickname they come up with at the time but he really needs to get to Omaha this year IMO.

We can’t go a whole 4 years without a trip to Omaha. I know last year was cut short and there wasn’t a CWS but I’m not willing to give him a break for that honestly.

Think we are both in that PM knighting camp, but this is really it. And itll be a good coaching job if he gets us there. Its been too long. Either take us to omaha, or go 12-18 in league play and get fired. The worst would be going 15-15 and barely making a regional and nothing happening

I agree.

You can’t have a #1, #8, and #2 classes in consecutive years and not make Omaha.

The competition is going to be the most difficult it’s ever been so I’m interested to see what they do.

hey will put all the SEC schools playing each other in the supers to knock each other out

And that's as it should be. It makes no difference in crowning the champs. If we can't beat Florida in the Supers we wouldn't beat them in Omaha.

Logical if true, but I don't think it's true. Beloso was solid defensively. Plus, it's always nice to have a guy with more reach at first base, and Beloso has more than Dugas.

Beloso is a better athlete than Raph Rhymes and he was able to play left field.

An interview I read had him saying beloso was much leaner, so perhaps he'll be agile enough to hold it down. Gio has wheels so he can cover a bit for him too. Or it could just be an early season experiment.

Proof you don't know much about baseball. Beloso has slimmed down and has the stronger arm from left.

I’ve been in that camp for awhile, but I’ve grown restless over the past couple seasons. I thought last season until it ended was borderline disappointing.

I think we need to make it to Omaha this year, one way or another.

Winning it all is hard with the scholarship limitations, nature of the game, and parity

But with our recruiting classes we should be in omaha more often
