re: Anybody ever made the trip to Lexington for the Kentucky game?

I have not but my father made a number of trips up there and always enjoyed it.

It's been a while but Rupp Arena is connected to a Hilton...back then, anyway...much like the Dome in N.O. is connected to the whatever it is now next to the Dome. The crowd itself, absent the students, is an older crowd & they dress almost like going to a cocktail party. Which at halftime the walk way around the arena becomes. Tickets are expensive as hell.

I've never been to Lexington for a game. We used to play
every year home and away. People may bitch about having to play Florida every year but as road trips go, I think that driving or flying to Florida sure beats the hell out of driving or flying to Kentucky. I have a question for you guys that have been to Rupp Arena. Is it an on campus basketball arena or is it an arena that is located in down town Lexington? The reason why I'm asking this is because some people say that if LSU was building a new basketball arena on campus then LSU could use the Centroplex or whatever it is called in downtown BR. I heard that quite a few schools play in arenas in their cities for home games. One school that does not play in a city's arena but has a massive on campus arena is Tennessee. That's one place that I've been to and that arena is huge.

I went when we played there in the early 90’s. Lost game. Terrible stadium (they have upgraded in the last few years, I believe). Went to basketball star Rex Chapman’s restaurant after the game. Ok trip. Definitely one of the top 14 trips in the SEC.

Went for the Blue Grass Miracle. Pretty country up there, but honestly not very memorable outside the game itself that is. If I would have been there longer I suppose we good have gone to see some thoroughbred farms are distilleries are some such.

Female talent was lacking as well in comparison to some other campuses we've been to.

Been twice. Horse racing and Whiskey. What more could you want. Great trip

Went for football, Bluegrass Miracle.

The city itself nice enough, horse farms are cool. Night life and food scene I found middling. The talent at the time I went (2002) was bottom third of the SEC.

I went in 2002. Of course it was awesome!!!

It was an 11:30am Jefferson Pilot kickoff, so I didn’t tailgate. We parked really far from the stadium and literally ran about three miles because it was almost kickoff. I went with Army buddies of mine so we were used to running. We were all either stationed or used to be stationed at Ft Campbell, KY but I was the only LSU fan of the three. I did meet a childhood friend of mine who was an LSU fan but was stationed in North Carolina (Air Force) and made the trip.

I remember the 86 yard punt, and then I remember Kentucky fans booing for about five consecutive minutes after not getting a call. I was impressed.

The Kentucky fans didn’t like me calling their punt returner “Whitey,” but I didn’t care.

Kentucky had an awesome comeback, which I would have appreciated but since it was against my Tigers, screw them.

And then of course Randall launched a Hail Mary to Devery and it made for the most exciting finish to an LSU football game I’ve ever seen.

The ball looked like it was tipped three times and went five yards further with each tip. When Devery caught it he had nothing but daylight in front of him. It was an amazing play to witness.

I ran on the field. A Kentucky fan threatened to kick my arse so I went over to talk smack but we both weren’t going to do anything. I gave him a chance to punch me in the face and even asked him to, but he didn’t. It was a weird feeling. I was definitely not in a fighting mood because I was so excited about LSU winning on a Hail Mary, but I wasn’t just going to let him talk smack either, so I got in his face a little bit and dared him to punch me.

We went to a Hooters after the game, I think it was the one heading out of Lexington towards Cincinnati. I only brought it up to say that one of the girls that worked there looked like Zendaya (before Zendaya was a thing) and I was very impressed by her, so impressed that I tipped her $50, which was a lot for a 21 year old who was in college.

Didn’t stay at a hotel, so I can’t help you there. We drove from Austin to Ft Campbell, stayed in my buddies barracks room (which used to be mine) then headed back to Austin.

Great trip. People say the stadium is generic, but there wasn’t a bad seat in the house. I know because we originally started in the nosebleeds, then moved down towards the LSU section, which had open seats.

Yes, in 1989 and 1991. One of the nicest areas in the SEC.

Funny story about 1991 game. My wife and I had been married a year and she couldn't care less about basketball-still doesn't care too much for it. We drove around campus the morning of the game --it was on JP/TBS,but a late kickoff-- and drove past Memorial Coliseum. Not sure when they moved the event to Rupp,but in 1991 at least they still had Midnight Madness there and that was to take place that night. My wife wondered aloud what concert was taking place. I tried to explain Midnight Madness to her. She thought I was making it up that no one would sit in the drizzle for 14 hours for a practice.
